A human soul, a pure human soul! The water fairy Rusalka longs for life above the water surface, for love and a human soul. The witch knows the way, but the price is high – Rusalka loses the ability to speak, but what good is speech to her when for her beloved prince she is just a wave on the surface… However, the world of people turns out to be cruel and full of betrayal, over which even her pure love cannot triumph. Director David Radok and his Rusalka as a fateful drama about unfulfilled desires and human failure, about the contradictory conflict between love and erotic desire, a drama about the sinful human soul. Since its creation, Dvořák's Rusalka has been one of the most beloved and performed Czech operas not only thanks to its beautiful and unique music, but also to the poetic and timeless libretto by Jaroslav Kvapil, which hides endless symbolism. A theme that seems to have been created for David Radok and a multi-layered production full of strong emotions. David Radok's set design is based on the concept of Rusalka by set designer Lars-Ake Thessman, performed at GöteborgsOperan in 2012.
Aida preview trailer
Come and listen to the production team and soloists of the new production of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida. The preview will take place on September 10, 2025 at the Janáček Theatre and you can also watch it online. Verdi's Aida is one of his masterpieces, which lacks none of the guaranteed ingredients of a romantic Italian opera - love, jealousy, political intrigue, large choral scenes and inevitable tragic death. Of course, this also includes a great singing cast, in this case Csilla Boross, Sung Kyu Park, Luis Cansino, Aleš Jenis and others. This will also be the first time that our company will collaborate with our junior ballet company NdB2 on this production. The productions usually focus on the secret lovers Radames and Aida, but what if we looked at the whole story through the eyes of Amneris, whose love for Radames is determined to win her at any cost, unaware that the price will ultimately be human lives, including the life of her chosen one?

MUSIC IN THE CHANGES OF TIME
Chamber Concert Series 2025/26 28th Concert Season (September 2025 – May 2026) MUSIC IN THE CHANGES OF TIME A CYCLE OF EIGHT CHAMBER CONCERTS IN THE BESEDNÍ DOME
The music of Bizet's Carmen hides French esprit and Spanish passion. After all, who doesn't know immortal opera hits - the famous Habanera, or the aria of the bullfighter Escamillo. But what if there's something more hidden behind the story of the fleeting nature of love? At the beginning was a short novel by the French writer Prosper Merimée about Don José, who deserted the army because of a foolish passion for a wild gypsy woman, became a smuggler and a murderer. Carmen, directed by Tomáš Pilar, returns to the original story and reveals additional layers of individual characters - the characters here are mainly people who came from completely different backgrounds. It's not just about Carmen's fleeting and unbridled love, which the jealous José cannot cope with. It is a clash of two worlds – the orderly, neat world of José and Micaëla, bound by predetermined rules, and the world of gypsies and smugglers living day to day, without laws and governed by momentary impulses. Their worlds suddenly intersect, but this difference causes tension and conflict that leads to the complete destruction of both.

But everything has its price and not even love can save everything.
