The Jackal Years

07/10/25, 19:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

The Jackal Years is set in Prague's Dejvice in the late 1950s, living peacefully in its "small town" way in the shadow of the red star at the top of the International Hotel. One day, a young man named Bejby bursts into the world of parents living with the everyday worries of early socialism and their children, whose sense of the "outside world" is determined by the exotic contents of the hotel's trash cans. The innocent dustman causes a stir with his eccentric clothing and passion for "unknown" rock and roll rhythms; the youth are thrilled and the parents despair. Bejby's appearance, amplified in the story by the rock and roll hits of Ivan Hlas, which have now become popular (such as Jednu mi fotr požiadě, Na kolena or Rock'n'roll pro Beethovena), thus marks a key turning point in the lives of a generation of boys. The popular story of dreaming about a different, better world beyond the limits of a desperately gray reality appears on the stage of the Music Stage in our original production and musical adaptation. It is directed by Stanislav Slovák.

XIII. století

01/11/25, 20:00 / Metro Music Bar

XIII. století is a Czech musical group. It describes its music as gothic rock and, according to interviews with frontman Petr Štěpán, XIII. century distances itself from any association with the work or focus of groups labeled as "metalgothic", "doomgothic", etc. It was formed in 1990 from the punk band HNF (Hrdinové nové fronty) and released its first album Amulet two years later. This group is also popular in Poland. In various line-up variations, it has so far recorded and released 10 regular albums, 2 concert recordings (Nocturno, Live in Berlin) and three compilations (Karneval, 2CD Ritual, 3CD Horizont vydětní). The album Horizont vydětní contains, in addition to the group's compositions and new compositions Faust and Bohové na strojích, also the compositional work of Petr Štěpán - incidental music for theater plays and the electronic project Hindenburg. On the occasion of the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of XIII. century released a studio album called Intacto on February 5, 2016. According to Petr Štěpán, Intacto should be the band's last studio album. On October 21, 2016, a ten-album box set called Pandora was released.

Monty Python´s Spamalot

02/11/25, 18:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

Who doesn't know the legendary warrior King Arthur? And the mythical castle of Camelot, where the Knights of the Round Table gathered to unite a divided Britain and fight against enemies and finally set out together to find the Holy Grail? We all know this legend. But perhaps the reality was a little different… The comedy group Monty Python was formed in an Indian restaurant in Hampstead, London, in May 1969, when five Britons and one American decided to join forces and create a comedy series for the BBC. Thus was born Monty Python's Flying Circus, a series full of sketches, absurd situations and supremely British humor; it aired for 4 seasons from 1969-1974 and has a total of 45 episodes. In addition to live shows, the "Pythons" then ventured into feature films, among others, the most famous of which are The Meaning of Life (1983), Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) and Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1974).

Folk Team a hosté Jarek Nohavica, Roman Dragoun

02/11/25, 19:00 / Mahen Theatre

or Team of Folk Seventies

We started in the seventies and we are still here in the seventies… The founders and protagonists of Folk Team will celebrate their seventies in 2025. The band was formed in 1973, founded by Roman Venclovský, Pavel Kopřiva and Tomáš Úlehla. In the pre-revolutionary period, they played folk in an acoustic "garb" using violin, flute and cello, received two author's Ports and became a sought-after group, especially in clubs throughout the country. The band's distinguishing features are primarily the poetic lyrics of Ivan Huvar, who became a member of the band in 1980, and the expressive singing of Roman Venclovský and elaborate musical arrangements. After 1989, the band was electrified, rhythmic elements arrived, i.e. bass guitar and drums players, and the band shifted to folk rock in genre. The turning point in their work was the CD "Velký prachy" from 2000 and later "Nebudu" from 2012. Songs such as Skála, Nadčlověk, Opilej anděl became an integral part of the playlist of genre radios.

Ferda Ant

05/11/25, 10:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

Ferda the Ant – all kinds of work! You can easily recognize him, he has a red scarf with black polka dots around his neck, he is friends with Ladybug and the Bug. He is always in a good mood and knows how to deal with everything. The ideal hero of a children's opera. The iconic character from Ondřej Sekora's cartoons with stories from the beetle kingdom inspired the Brno composer and conductor Evžen Zámečník (1939-2018) to, as he himself said, play an opera for young and old, which had its very successful world premiere in 1977 at the Brno Opera. The two-act opera will initially introduce children to how such an opera works and then just start playing. Ferda and everyone go to the meadow for a morning warm-up, accompanied by a drunken bumblebee. Ferda helps Cricket fix his TV so he can watch hockey. The Bag Bug organizes a performance at the swimming pool, and finally Ferda flies home in a spider web airship.

Carmen

06/11/25, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

At the beginning was a short novella by the French writer Prosper Merimée about Don José, who deserted the army due to a foolish passion for a wild gypsy woman, became a smuggler and a murderer. Carmen, directed by Tomáš Pilar, returns to the original story and reveals additional layers of individual characters - the characters here are mainly people who came from completely different backgrounds. It is not just about Carmen's fleeting and unbridled love, which the jealous José cannot cope with. It is a clash of two worlds - the orderly, neat world of José and Micaëla, bound by predetermined rules, and the world of gypsies and smugglers living from day to day, without laws and controlled by momentary impulses. Their worlds suddenly intersect, but this difference causes tension and a clash that leads to the complete destruction of both of them. Neither of them is able to prevent it, because neither is willing or able to back down.

DoOušek + Adam Kubát a Pavel Křivák

06/11/25, 19:30 / Club Leitnerova

A touch of poetry in the cotton of jazzfolk, an alto that caresses you, or at least runs down your back, around it music that is not perfect, but has a soul. Folk, blues, a little acoustic, a little electric, simply whatever a poem calls for. Behind the music of poetry of living and dead poets is guitarist Jirka Vrba, the colors are added by the saxophone and transverse flute of Radek Přibyl, the accordion of Zuzana Křížová, the rhythm is held by the drums of Pavel Jaroš and the fretless bass of Leo Javora, the vocals of Marie Vrbová. Adam Kubát and Pavel Křivák are versatile musicians who have combined their voices in the repertoire of the famous American duo Simon & Garfunkel. In recent years, they have devoted a lot of time to studying solo SG performances, where the incredible alchemy of working with dynamics, harmony, phrasing and experience stands out best. “It seems like an unattainable goal, but at the same time it is an adventure of discovery and a joyful journey for us, where the sum of imperceptible nuances creates a completely different experience for us and the audience.”

The LP Inevitably Delayed is released on October 10th and you can pre-order it at shop.theprostitutes.cz.

CTIB | Taskent

06/11/25, 20:00 / Alterna

CTIB His roots lie in the DIY punk scene of the small Moravian town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. He was part of a group that organized concerts at the Vrah club, and he played or plays in bands – previously, for example, Telefon or Uštkni, today Chorobopop. In addition to punk, he was also influenced by Czech pre-November folk, so when he started performing solo under the name Ctib, it was initially folk punk with an acoustic guitar. Over time, however, this was no longer enough for him – he started adding drums, bass and synthesizers to his music, which he arranged on his computer. Eventually, he also uploaded a guitar to his computer and stopped taking it to concerts. He called the style he created “discoegopunk”. Taskent Detectives without guns, poetic rap and brass instruments driven by precise dance rhythms. The perfect soundtrack for wandering around the night city and wandering in the depths of your own soul. Taskent is a synergy of authors from two generations, a synergy of electronic music, singing, rap, two trombones and a live rhythm section.

70 or HOW IT ALL BEGAN

08/11/25, 10:30 / Besední dům Concert Hall

Natálie Spoustová piano (Pavel Křížkovský Elementary School) Brno Philharmonic conductor Dennis Russell Davies piano moderated by Kristýna Drášilová and Vítězslav Mikeš script by Kristýna Drášilová The Brno Philharmonic is celebrating its jubilee! It will be seventy, which is just a number for the orchestra. It is still young, fresh, inspiring. And it loves its young and old listeners, for whom it has prepared magnificent celebrations: it will commemorate important moments from its rich history. Be with us! Our – and your – Philharmonic was “born” on January 1, 1956 and organized its first concert under its own name less than three weeks later. The program included fanfares from Smetana’s Libuše, Janáček’s Taras Bulba and Dvořák’s New World. At this year's first concert of the Family Subscription cycle, you can look forward not only to these - and other - compositions, but also to the current chief conductor of the Brno Philharmonic, Dennis Russell Davies!
