THE ROCK AND THE PINE TREE

15/10/25, 17:00 / Piňosova Street in Kohoutovice, Chalabalova Elementary School gym

FESTIVAL ACCOMPANYING PROGRAM Admission to the afternoon events is free, the evening concert will be on sale later through the concert organizer. One hundred years since the birth of composer Alois Piňos and artist Dalibor Chatrný Piňosova Street in Kohoutovice, Chalabalova Elementary School gym The Rooster and the Pine is an auto-mythological story, a side story about life before and after death. What will remain of the author – his children, his work and the street named after him. In Kohoutovice, Brno, we will ceremoniously christen a bench on Piňosova Street, and then we will play compositions by Alois Piňos and his contemporaries together with preludes and interludes for the original Piňos piano by his pupils, friends and son. After five days, friendship burns brighter than false interest. So five premieres for five minutes for the Piňos piano have their irrational, tarot reason.

Don Quijote

15/10/25, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

One of the pillars of the classical ballet legacy is the ballet Don Quixote to the music of Ludwig Minkus, inspired by Cervantes' famous novel The Ingenious Don Quixote of La Mancha. It describes the adventures of the hero, the knight Don Quixote, who is torn by imaginations moving between illusion and reality. However, the ballet productions use Cervantes' story in their libretto only as inspiration and pretext. All the stage action is centered around the young loving couple Basilio (Basil) and Quiteria (Kitri), who are hindered by the rich suitor Comacho (Gamacho). Only thanks to Don Quixote will their love be fulfilled.

Vráťa Hošek will join forces not only with his band Vadnej Hrošík, but also with the bizarre and incorrect Pondělníky. Together with them, he is embarking on his first official tour to spread his songs on the borders of the law and beyond the boundaries of taste among the unsuspecting public. The historical and educational slurs of the already popular singer-songwriter about the Third Reich, alcohol and his love of life Olga Hepnarová will be accompanied by his six-member band. The Vadnej Hrošík ensemble released its first EP "První krev" this year and will of course also play Vráťa's classic slurs. Some punk boilers, halekání and not only that! The band promised that they might even rehearse. Pondělníky, otherwise known as "the worst band in the world," are embarking on an autumn tour with their new album "We Don't Want Pondělníky in the Czech Republic," but they will also play all the characteristically offensive anti-music that you already know.

Carmen

16/10/25, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

The music of Bizet's Carmen hides French esprit and Spanish passion. After all, who doesn't know immortal opera hits - the famous Habanera, or the aria of the bullfighter Escamillo. But what if there's something more hidden behind the story of the fleeting nature of love?

DESIRE

16/10/25, 19:00 / Besední dům Concert Hall

FRANZ SCHUBERT Sehnsucht D 636 Nachtstück D 672 Der Pilgrim D 794 Auf dem Wasser zu singen D 774 Der Zwerg D 771 Die Sterne D 939 and other songs María Cristina Kiehr soprano Pablo Márquez romantic guitar Last year, two internationally renowned artists originally from Argentina – soprano María Cristina Kiehr and guitarist Pablo Márquez – recorded and released the interpretatively unique and dramaturgically groundbreaking album Sehnsucht, in which they included songs by Franz Schubert with authentic guitar accompaniment from the period. In Schubert's time, it was common for songs with piano accompaniment to be published with alternative guitar accompaniment, often within the same edition. Schubert was no exception – during his lifetime, thirty-four of his songs were published in this way, to which another eighteen were added in the five years after the composer's death. Guitar arrangements of these accompaniments were often the work of the publishers themselves, either because they were guitarists, as was the case with Diabelli, or because they commissioned the arrangements from experts on the instrument. Today we know of about seventy Schubert songs with arranged guitar accompaniments, which have been largely neglected until now and whose historical significance we are only beginning to discover and understand.

LAST PAGAN CEREMONIES IN WATER TANKS

17/10/25, 20:00 / Water Tanks under Žluty Kopec

BRONIUS KUTAVIČIUS The Last Pagan Rites, oratorio for soprano, choir, organ and horns Cantiléna, children's choir at the Brno Philharmonic Choirmaster Michal Jančík When Moravian Autumn presented the oratorio The Last Pagan Rites by Lithuanian composer Bronius Kutavičius in 2017, the concert was described as one of the biggest events of the entire festival year. In 2021, Moravian Autumn presented the work again in an extraordinary way, as a tribute to the composer, who died shortly before the festival opened. Even then, the performance was met with great interest. The audience success and the enthusiasm of the children's choir Kantiléna for performing this work made The Last Pagan Rites a permanent program item of the Moravian Autumn and Tradition: the work was again presented with great interest and success in 2023 and is also planned for 2025: this time, however, for the first time in a recently discovered and made accessible architectural gem - in Brno's historical reservoirs, whose acoustics and almost temple-like architecture will undoubtedly enhance the effect of this suggestive oratorio by Kutavičius and offer it in a new context.

Her godmother

18/10/25, 18:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

Worse than a scar on the face are scars on the soul. Jenůfí pastorkyňa is one of Janáček's most famous works and is a permanent part of the Brno Opera repertoire. It began with a realistic drama by Gabriela Preissová, which the composer himself adapted into an opera libretto. Although he had to significantly shorten the text of the drama, he managed to deepen the effect of the tragic story from the Moravian countryside. The prodigal and unstable Števa, the violent and yet at heart kind Laca, and above all the relentless Kostelnička, whose efforts to maintain her position and respect in the village community lead her to murder the child of her ward Jenůfa. Janáček (1854–1928) captured the individual characters in a masterful dramatic short story that is chilling, yet at the same time arouses compassion and understanding in us. The final form of the work, marked by the death of the composer's daughter Olga, was a long and thorny path. After its successful premiere in Brno in 1904, Jenůfí pastorkyňa had to wait twelve long years before Janáček's efforts were crowned with well-deserved success on other domestic and foreign stages.

Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, Iván Fischer have held the conductor's chair, and Sir Charles Mackerras has also worked closely with the ensemble.

Michael Mayo: Fly

19/10/25, 19:30 / Cabaret des Péchés

The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter was destined for a singing career at the crossroads of jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues and soul by fate. More precisely: by his family background. What's left for you when your parents, a saxophonist father and a singer mother, perform with Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross or Luther Vandross during your childhood?

Zdeněk Denis Blažek - organ B3, electric piano, vocals. Pavel "Bob" Kramár - drums. Víťa Starka - guitar, vocals. Ivo Kafka - bass guitar Sometimes Tomáš Továrek is a guest on flute and alto saxophone, Petr "Pipin" Plachý - congas, percussion, Robert Rouš - guitar The band usually plays in Brno at the jazz bar "U kouřícího králíka" (Křídlovická/Václavská), at the club "Rusty Nail" (Resavý hřebík) Veveří 57, Brno and at the music café "Stará pekárna", Štefánikova 8. We have participated several times in the "Jazz v pivováře" festivals in Dalešice and the festival at Veveří Castle, at the Jihlava spectacular brewery event "Dny Ježka" and at the mini festival in Mladý Bříšt near Humpolec "Jazz ve dvoře" We play the so-called "white soul" (something like the bands Joe Cocker, Steely Dan . . .) - simply rhythm & blues of the 60s and 70s and it corresponds to as well as my own creations and arrangements.

Stardust (HU)

22/10/25, 20:00 / Metro Music Bar

One of the hottest new bands on the European melodic rock scene is coming to Brno! Hungarian band Stardust caught the attention of fans and experts with their self-released debut EP, which immediately stirred up the underground scene. Thanks to enthusiastic fans who recommended them directly to the label during the Frontiers Rock Festival, the band was signed by Frontiers Music Srl – and that was just the beginning! This concert at the Metro is also happening at the direct request of Czech fans who wrote about it. Their debut album “Highway To Heartbreak” (2020) received rave reviews and confirmed that Stardust is not just a short-lived flash, but a full-fledged force on the rock scene.

Kompromat (FR)

22/10/25, 21:00 / Club Fléda

Kompromat is the result of a collaboration between Pascal Arbez-Nicolas (Vitalic) and Rebecca Warrior (Sexy Sushi, Mansfield.TYA). Their first joint album Traum und Existenz, released on Vitalic's label Clivage Music in 2019, laid the foundations for their dark and hard electronic universe. In January 2025, Kompromat returns with the album PLДYING / PRДYING, released on Warriorecords (Rebecca's label). With this record, the duo delves into the themes of prayer (pagan and non-pagan), funeral rituals, transitions between worlds, and, similar to the invocation of deities, captures ecstasy, dance, pleasure and carnal pleasures through music. The duo delights in blurring boundaries and proves it with their new record, which blends EBM, Cold Wave, New Wave and radical techno. While the lyrics on the first album were in German, the new album is sung in English. On the record, we can register the duo's close surroundings, represented by the voices of Vimala Pons and Sonia DeVille, which sound like echoes from other worlds.
