It is no wonder that this landscape inspired her to write her most famous work, which brought her worldwide success. The novel Heidis Lehr- und Wanderjahre was published in 1880 and in the Czech translation it is known to generations of children as Heidi, the Little Girl of the Mountains.

The author of the script for this musical, Catherine Johnson, did an excellent job of this procedure, which is not often met with enthusiastic reception. The experienced British playwright managed to write an entertaining, captivating story, of which the well-known songs are an integral and natural part. The musical premiered in 1999 at London's Prince Edward Theatre, was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards and subsequently for five American Tony Awards when it was successfully performed on Broadway in 2001.
