The Jackal Years

"Close your eyes, most of you can see better that way..." The famous 1993 musical comedy film by director Jan Hřebejk and screenwriter Petr Jarchovský, based on the short story of the same name by Petr Šabach, does not present a realistic picture of the Czech 1950s. Rather, it erects, with admitted exaggeration, a monument "in honor of the heroes who once drove people crazy," as sung in its final song.
