The premiere of Janáček's second and last string quartet, Listy próvenné, took place on September 7, 1928, in the hall of the Besední dom for experts and referents, performed by the Moravian Quartet. Today, the room on the third above-ground floor serves as a choir rehearsal room, especially for the home Cantiléna.

The Janáček Quartet was formed at the Brno Conservatory in 1947 from among students. Due to the rapid maturation and especially the excellent interpretation of the works of Leoš Janáček, the ensemble earned the right to call itself the name of its beloved author. In 1955, Janáček's quartet, composed of Jiří Trávníček, Adolf Sýkora, Jiří Kratochvíl and Karel Krafka, undertook its first foreign tour, and after a few years the group's activities covered all continents.
Janáček's quartet successfully represented the Czech-Moravian interpretation tradition in fifty-five countries and at important world festivals, which aroused the interest of famous recording companies in cooperation. From the ensemble's rich discography, two titles were awarded the Grand Prix de l'Akadémie de Charles Gross and one was honored with the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
Almost seventy years of artistic activity of the ensemble forced gradual changes in the cast, but the interpretive canon and expressive expression remain the traditional image of the Janáček Quartet's play.

Now I started writing something nice. That will be our life in it. It will be called Love Leaves... The whole will hold a special instrument. It is called viola d'amour - viola of love. Oh I look forward to it! In that work, I will always be only with You! No one else next to us. Full of that desire like there with You in that heaven of ours! I'll be happy to do that! You know that I don't know any other world apart from You! You are my everything, I want nothing but Your love.
Leoš Janáček, from a letter to Kamila Stösslova (February 1, 1928)
