The Pavel Haas Quartet has prepared a new work by the significant Slovak composer, Ľubica Čekovská, for its performance at the Žďár Chateau. She has written a quartet for this year’s festival, which she has called the Midsummer’s Night Quartet with reference to the festival’s focus on ShakespeareAlong with the premiere of this work, the program will also include the most tragic of Shostakovich’s fifteen quartets, which was influenced by the composer’s experience of the broken city of Dresden, and Smetana’s second quartet, his final victory in his struggle with encroaching madness.
