JazzFestBrno I Matthew Stevens & Walter Smith III + Antonio Sánchez & Bad Hombre

23/03/22, 19:30

During the concert on March 23, 2022 at the Cabaret des Péchés in Brno, guitarist Matthew Stevens and saxophonist Walter Smith III will perform with him. Another guest will be drummer Antonio Sánchez, who this time will visit "JazzFestBrno" with the band Bad Hombre nominated for this year's Grammy.
Guitarist Matthew Stevens likes to break the line between jazz, rock and ambient music. Saxophonist Walter Smith III embodies the words of Dizzy Gilespie, who claimed that the right musician should always be one foot in the past and the other in the future. The same is reflected in their joint project In Common - three albums with the same name, distinguished only by a number. All three albums have one thing in common - they offer a unique opportunity to hear musical conversations between performers from all corners of the jazz scene, who in some cases play together for the very first time. The bassist Harish Raghavan and drummer Jonathan Barber will join the established duo in the concert performance.
Native Mexican Antonio Sánchez, along with Pat Metheny, Chick Corey and Michael Brecker, rose to the top jazz league at the beginning of the millennium, only to soon begin to form his own musical universe with the Migration project. He made his debut with him in 2007. The musician also won four Grammys for the soundtrack to the film Birdman by director Alejandro González Iñárrit. Brno fans can remember Sánchez from Pat Metheny's Unity Band concert in 2012. This spring, Sánchez plans to release SHIFT (Bad Hombre Vol 2) with a diverse mix of guests - from Nine Inch Nails founder Trent Reznor to Mexican singer Lila Downs, bassist Meshell Ndegeocello to rocker Dave Mathews. He will perform in the concert band with his proven partners, which are singer Thana Alexa, keyboardist Bigyuki and bassist Lex Sadler.
