JFB 2022: Marcus Miller

Bass guitar master Marcus Miller is coming to his very first concert in Brno.
Marcus Miller is considered one of the leading figures in jazz music of the last four decades. He was particularly famous for his collaboration with jazz genius Miles Davis in the 80s, collaboration on projects with David Sanborn, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin and, last but not least, his solo career. Composer, producer and winner of two Grammy awards, whose distinguishing feature is the unique tidal technique of playing, claimed the bass even with music stars of global format such as Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra or Elton John.
Miller was chosen by UNESCO as the face of its peace campaign and also became a spokesperson for the Slave Route Project. Even movie fans know his name. For example, he recently composed music for the American football drama Safety. Miller's most recent studio album, Laid Black, was released in 2018, and the veteran bassist tastefully mixed R&B, trap, funk and hip-hop with jazz in his unmistakably liberal way. "Miller succeeds in emphasizing the commonalities of these genres while exploiting the originality of each," Dan Bilawski of JazzTimes reviewed the record. Miller's ability to navigate diverse genre waters is simply legendary. And it works by far the best when interacting with an audience.
