ORIENT (baptism)

Our label Kabinet Records is growing again. With the successive release of the singles Burberry Pie and Haven Left Behind, the Prague band Orient announced the new record Redwood, which on 30.10. baptism in the Cabinet of the MÚZ.

LP Redwood brings with it variations in both line-up and style. The peculiar formation Orient went through personnel changes and welcomed Patrik Šafránek as drummer. Ondřej Šponer took care of the bass on the recording, but he will be replaced by Andrea Rottin in the live line-up. Regarding style, Lukáš Polák talks about freeing up space for more traditional musical instruments at the expense of electronics. Music that cannot be classified as a genre is thus more lively and dynamic, changeable and does not adhere to the traditional formats established by Western popular music.

As for the structure of the songs, over the years the band has always followed a similar style, which is mainly characterized by a number of seemingly unrelated parts that do not bring immediate catharsis, just because their connecting elements take place in more subtle hints. In terms of genre, Orient is more difficult to describe in terms of a single box, but namely, on the current LP you can hear rawer and laconic post-punk vocals, psychedelic guitars, krautrock synths or even prog-rock procedures with a characteristic tension of indecision. In terms of lyrics, compared to their previous debut, Orient moved from a torn and dissatisfied position to a relatively more conciliatory and prudent one, however, the mystical veil is still present and, like the music itself, requires due attention and patience from the listener.

TOMÁŠ PALUCHA

Duo Tomáš Palucha was founded in 2012 by guitarists Jan Tomáš and Libor Palucha. The line-up later expanded to include drums and a bass guitar, and the sound also shifted from minimalist guitars or film music to more powerful post-rock or metal compositions.
