The amorous intrigues of a crafty count and the virtuous Adèle. A comic opera where the desire for amorous adventure awakens the wildest fantasies…

This capricious opuscule about a womanizing count who is set on winning over a virtuous countess is based on a medieval ballad about a notorious French Don Juan. This comic opera, where the desire for amorous adventures awakens the wildest fantasies, sets the most incredible traps and is not afraid to take risks or do whatever it takes, is a joy from beginning to end. Le Compte Ory is one of Rossini’s best operas. The work is known for its virtuoso and extremely demanding singing parts, and bursts with musical ideas from the stage as well as the orchestra pit. Rossini, a well-known bon vivant and lover of the culinary arts, wrote this as his penultimate opera in 1828. This production of the opera, where the scheming count eventually becomes the darling of the public, will be the Czech premiere.
