Altar Quartet feat. JD Walter

16/06/22, 20:00

Singing talent, music innovator and the most avant-garde jazz singer of today will perform on a joint tour with jazzmen Nikolai NIkitin and Ľuboš Šrámek.
Renowned Slovak musicians have a number of musical collaborations with artists from the European and international jazz scene. It is worth mentioning, for example, their recent performance with Israeli saxophonist Shlomi Goldenberg or the excellent Czech trumpet soloist Miroslav Hloucal. This time, however, saxophonist Nikolaj Nikitin and pianist Ľuboš Šrámek joined forces with a jazz singer who, according to critics, inspires and sets the stage for other vocalists. But the concert line with JD Walter is not accidental. The duo has already collaborated with him on the album Performances by Ľuboš Šrámek, on which Walter sang the song Man with lyrics by Milan Rúfus, in English translation by John Minahane. Nikolai Nikitin composed the music for it.
The trio will be accompanied on tour by double bassist Matěj Štubniak, also known as critics of the future of Slovak double bass in Slovakia, as well as drummer and seasoned participant of the Bratislava Jazz Days Marián Ševčík. Over the course of seven days, the Altar Quartet will visit its three main Central European cities, Bratislava, Prague and Vienna, but it will also appear in Brno, Piešťany, the St. Nicholas Jazz Festival and the Gemer Jazz Festival in Rožňava. Fans of quality jazz music can expect a selection from the work of the Nikitin / Šrámek duo, Ľuboš Šrámek's solo album, but also from the repertoire of JD Walter, a 54-year-old native of Philadelphia. "JD has an incredibly gentle and lyrical speech. He recorded the last album only with pianists as duets. That's why Nikitin, who, in addition to Ľuboš Šrámek, forms the solid core of this group, is close to us. ”
JD Walter is an American jazz singer known for his improvisational skills
and discovering new music worlds. Criticism of him especially appreciates the ability to use his own
voice as another musical instrument, without being afraid to step out of established conventions. It is too
considered a pioneer who brought elements of electronic innovation to jazz music.
