The Concentus Moraviae Festival starts today. It will travel between Kroměříž and Vienna
The 28th edition of the Concentus Moraviae Festival will remind us of the musical life between Kroměříž and Vienna in the 17th and 18th centuries. Concerts are traditionally held in the courtyards and salons of chateaux, in castle halls, and in the pews of basilicas, churches and synagogues. The legendary Viennese ensemble Concentus Musicus Wien has accepted the position of ensemble in residence. Today’s opening concert will feature this ensemble under the direction of Czech conductor Tomáš Netopil. more
Year of Choirs: Happening with Hradišťan to celebrate European Music Day
Tomorrow, i.e., Wednesday 21 June on European Music Day, a happening will take place, the biggest event of the year-long project titled Year of Choirs. Zelný Trh will host 33 amateur choirs from Brno and the vicinity, under the direction of choirmaster Petr Kolař. Hradišťan & Jiří Pavlica have also accepted the invitation to join the nearly 600-strong musical ensemble in the grand finale. more

The Jazz Courtyard will once again connect students from HAMU and JAMU
Talented students and experienced jazz musicians will perform at the Jazz Courtyard for the eighth time. Student ensembles and long-running projects of selected students and teachers will perform on behalf of the jazz departments of Prague’s HAMU and Brno’s JAMU in a unique concert program. The Brno part of the event will take place in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall. more
The ObrFest open-air festival starts tomorrow
On Friday and Saturday, Brno’s Obřany will come alive with culture. The 9th edition of the ObrFest open-air festival will take place for the second time at several locations on the outskirts of the city. Audiences will be able to attend more than two dozen concerts of independent music - performers include Amelia Siba with Kryštof Kříček, Hrubá Hudba or Midi Lidi, there will be theatres for children and adults, and a rich literary and accompanying program. more

The Ibérica festival of Ibero-American Culture is celebrating twenty years and will once again bring Spanish flamenco stars to the Czech Republic. This year, the festival will visit Prague, Vyškov, Zdounek, Čech pod Kosířem and Velké Opatovice, but will be centered in Brno as usual. The event will also feature a gastronomic showcase in the courtyard of Brno’s Old Town Hall. more
Vratislav Bělský: Old music resonates and lives in the MZK
A multimedia exhibition devoted to the life and work of Vratislav Bělský - a prominent Brno musicologist and leading expert in the interpretation of early music - opens today at the Moravian Library (MZK). more
The festival presents its evening program in six cities, which includes nearly thirty multi-genre events, performances, concerts, improvisations and student presentations. In Brno, for example, it will present a multi-genre stage adaptation of Bára Basiková’s cult book, a chamber recital by chansonnier Nadia Válová and opera singer Kateřina Beranová, presentations of the festival’s dance workshops and Martin Kyšperský along with dance instructors from the ProART Festival. more
NdB performs Strauss’s Salome directed by David Radok
The closing of the Brno opera season belongs to Richard Strauss’s Salome. The work, based on the play of the same name by British playwright Oscar Wilde, returns to the Brno stage after twenty-three years. The fourth Brno adaptation of this title was created by director David Radok. After having produced Britten’s Peter Grimes, he returns with chief conductor Marko Ivanović, costume designer Zuzana Ježková, Dragan Stojčevski as the new set designer and Andrea Miltnerová as the new choreographer. The title roles will be performed by Linda Ballová, Eva Urbanová, Jaroslav Březina and Birger Radde. more
Connection, unity, contemplation - these words can be used to describe the musical evening of Schola Gregoriana Pragensis under the direction of David Eben and organist Tomáš Thon, which took place yesterday as part of the Easter Festival of Sacred Music at the church of St. Thomas. Not only the singing of a Gregorian chant, but also the works of composer Petr Eben (1929-2007) enlivened the church space with sound and colour for an hour. more
With a concert called Ensemble Inégal: Yesterday at the church of St. John, Zelenka opened the 31st edition of the Easter Festival of Sacred Music, this time with the suffix Terroir. This slightly mysterious word, which is popularly used in connection with wine, comes from the Latin word for land or soil, and carries the sum of all the influences, especially the natural conditions of a particular location and on the plants grown there. This term is thus metonymically transferred to the programme of this year's VFDH, as it consists exclusively of works by Czech authors, thus complementing the ongoing Year of Czech Music. more
For the fourth subscription concert of the Philharmonic at Home series, which took place on 14 March at the Besední dům and was entitled Mozartiana, the Brno Philharmonic, this time under the direction of Czech-Japanese conductor Chuhei Iwasaki, chose four works from the 18th to 20th centuries. These works are dramaturgically linked either directly through their creation in the Classical period or by inspiration from musical practices typical of that period. The first half of the concert featured Martina Venc Matušínská with a solo flute. more
The second stop on the short Neues Klavier Trio Dresden's Czech-German tour was at the concert hall of the Janáček Academy of Music on 6 March at 16:00. A programme consisting of world premières by two Czech and two German composers was performed in four cities (Prague, Brno, Leipzig and Dresden). more
The last opera première of the National Theatre Brno this year was Hurvínek Sells the Bride, which was co-produced with the Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre. The première continued the thematic focus associated with the Year of Czech Music and took place on 24 November in the large hall of the Reduta Theatre. more
