Brno native Jakub Hrůša has been awarded the Medal of Merit in the field of culture. He received the award today, Tuesday 28 October 2025, from the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel.
A total of 48 figures received state decorations from President Petr Pavel. Among them was conductor Jakub Hrůša. Born in Brno, Hrůša is now Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony and Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic (he will become its Chief Conductor in autumn 2028). A world-renowned and award-winning conductor, he has now furthered his career to become the seventh Music Director of Covent Garden Opera House in London.
The medal Hrůša received today at Prague Castle is the Medal of Merit (for services to the state in the field of the arts).
