The second edition of the Czech International Dance Competition is intended for students of dance conservatories and professional ballet schools from all over Europe, aged 12 and up until graduation. The European Dance Competition Brno will take place from 16 to 18 March 2026 at the Janáček Theatre. The ambitious project of the European Dance Competition Brno 2023 continues the rich history of ballet competitions at the National Theatre Brno. The NdB Ballet organizes this international competition in cooperation with the Brno Ballet School Filiánek.

His work has gained immense popularity and recognition, and his stories, full of absurdity and existential questions, have influenced modern literature and film. Kafka is today considered one of the most important writers of the 20th century, and his work and life remain a source of inspiration and exploration for generations of readers, literary critics and artists across genres.

All of us who know this fairy tale know which girl will eventually fall for Cinderella's lost slipper. Cinderella, the Prince, the wicked stepmother and the envious sisters come to life in a family fairy tale performance, accompanied by the beautiful music of Sergei Prokofiev in choreography tailored to our company and performers.

Take a look into the world of ballet with us! The 120-minute workshop offers younger school-age children (6-11 years) the opportunity to gain an insight into the world of ballet art in a playful and experiential way.

One of the pillars of the classical ballet legacy is the ballet Don Quixote to music by Ludwig Minkus, inspired by Cervantes' famous novel The Ingenious Don Quixote of La Mancha. It describes the adventures of the hero, the knight Don Quixote, who is torn by imaginations moving between illusion and reality.

Hailing from the wild and beautiful Connemara region of Ireland, Celtic Legends have toured the world since their inception. Their live music, dance and singing performances respectfully capture the culture and ancient history of Ireland, creating a captivating atmosphere that transports audiences straight to the heart of Ireland – its land, music, pubs and culture.

International Dance Day International Dance Day on April 29th is an important day for the NdB Ballet, which we celebrate every year in the form of an open air program, a gala performance or another event. As in previous years, the Brno Ballet cannot be missing from the celebrations on the piazzetta in front of the Janáček Theatre, when the open air program can already be considered a traditional form of celebration.

You can register here. 15.45 Exhibition The program will continue with a short concert with repertoire samples, where dancers from the NdB Ballet, students from the Brno Dance Conservatory, the I.V. Psoty Ballet School and the Filiánek Ballet School will perform.

The pinnacle of ballet romanticism, Giselle, is without exaggeration one of the cornerstones of the DNA of ballet literature. In 1841, the premiere of the new ballet Giselle took place in Paris and was such a huge success that within a decade it appeared on all the major stages of the ballet world of that time. The theme was provided by the German poet Heinrich Heine in his collection De l’Allemagne. The story of girls who died of betrayed love before their wedding and now cannot find peace in their graves was taken up by Théophile Gautier, a great theorist of romantic theatre and librettist Jules Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges. The captivating, lovely and melodic music, filled with French charm, was created by A. CH. Adam. The first performer of the fragile Giselle was one of the greatest dancers of Romanticism, Carlotta Grisi, for whom this ballet was created by choreographers Jean Corrali and Jules Perrot. In the Czech lands, Giselle gained popularity among the audience only slowly. It only reached the Brno stage in the late 1960s, when it was first performed there by choreographer Miroslav Kůra (1968). The audience will certainly remember Jiří Blažek's 1983 grand prix production with the unforgettable ethereal ballerina Soňa Zejdová and later Jana Kosíková in the title role.
