Les Misérables
A famous musical based on the novel by Victor Hugo. On February 13, 2009, one of the most famous musical titles written in the twentieth century premiered at the Music Stage of the Brno City Theatre. The story of the escaped galley slave Jean Valjean, which is based on Hugo's famous novel of the same name Les Misérables (1862), won the hearts of not only the Brno audience during more than 130 reruns, and Petr Gazdík won the prestigious Thalia Award for his portrayal of the lead role.
There are not many important and famous ballets of the classical and romantic era that our company does not have in its repertoire. The pinnacle of ballet romanticism, Giselle, is without exaggeration one of the cornerstones of the DNA of ballet literature. In 1841, the premiere of the new ballet Giselle took place in Paris and was such a huge success that within a decade it appeared on all the major stages of the ballet world of that time. The theme was provided by the German poet Heinrich Heine in his collection De l’Allemagne. The story of girls who died of betrayed love before their wedding and now cannot find peace in their graves was taken up by Théophile Gautier, a great theorist of romantic theatre and librettist Jules Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges. The captivating, lovely and melodic music, filled with French charm, was created by A. CH. Adam. The first performer of the fragile Giselle was one of the greatest dancers of Romanticism, Carlotta Grisi, for whom this ballet was created by choreographers Jean Corrali and Jules Perrot. In the Czech lands, Giselle gained popularity among the audience only slowly. It only reached the Brno stage in the late 1960s, when it was first performed there by choreographer Miroslav Kůra (1968). The audience will certainly remember Jiří Blažek's 1983 grand prix production with the unforgettable ethereal ballerina Soňa Zejdová and later Jana Kosíková in the title role.

Handel's Agrippina will be performed on the Brno stage for the first time, but the excellent Baroque orchestra Collegium 1704 is returning to the Janáček Theatre for the third time after the very successful Alcina and the Marriage of Figaro. So the audience does not have a difficult choice - the combination of Handel's opera, Collegium 1704 under the baton of Václav Luks and the Brno Opera ensemble - it is a must-see! Political intrigue is a topical topic in every era, and if people in love get caught in the middle of it, it is also an ideal subject for an opera. Cardinal Grimaldi added a political satire full of irony to the libretto, and G. F. Handel gave it drama, humor, despair and love in the music. Agrippina premiered in 1709 in Venice and immediately became the success of the season and Handel's first masterpiece. And it is no wonder that the musical number is a typical Handelian musical hit, depicting individual characters from the all-powerful Agrippina, her childish son Nero, the aging emperor Claudius, the little intriguer Poppaea to the honest Otto in such vivid colors that you feel you can meet them on the street in front of the theater. The title role will be performed by Pavla Vykopalová, who already celebrated great success with Alcina, and the German countertenor Constantin Zimmermann and the Czech countertenor Vojtěch Pelka will also appear here for the first time.

JazzFestBrno: Oz Noy Trio
When you say that someone mixes influences from jazz, funk, blues, rock and soul into one unique shape, it actually sounds quite vague and could be said about almost anything. However, this characteristic is actually true of very few people. And it is missing one very important word: groove.

Manon Lescaut
In our country, Manon is known primarily thanks to the beautifully poetic treatment by Vítězslav Nezval, but Puccini's opera is based on the original French novel by the abbé Antoine-François Prévost d'Exiles, which was published in Paris in 1731. But the capricious Manon is a woman of all centuries and, thanks to her literary and dramatic adaptation, she is certainly the right one for the regular director of the NdB drama, Štěpán Pácel, on his first journey into the world of opera.

Leto s Monikou + Čáry života + Tadeus Racety
Leto and Monika return at a time when music is often expected to be an escape, not truth. However, the new album Cítiť to všetko naraz remains exactly where it is most difficult to be today. In doubts, in relationships, in emotions that cannot be divided into good and bad.
Čáry života is a project by musician and producer Jan Boroš (Fiordmoss, Tichonov, Wotienke), who drew attention to himself in 2018 with his debut album Stínítko. “Slow and Sad Songs about Love” earned critical acclaim at the time with the Apollo Award and two nominations for the Vinyla music award.
Tadeus Racety is a promising musician and producer who mixes the sound of the late 1990s and early 2000s with modern lo-fi aesthetics in his work. His compositions are based on personal themes, sincere lyrics and pleasant, melancholic melodies.

After a series of concerts for the essential album Soukromá elegie (it received a gold disc!) and the retrospective Route 66 for the supraphonic 13-CD set, Luboš entered the Beat Hall of Fame... and is reaping all the rewards and awards in halls from Šumava to Ostrava, which are increasingly sold out. In October 2019, he released his first live album called Ostrava !!! Live, and he filled two Prague Lucerna bars to the ceiling both during the celebrations of the seventh round and as part of the current tour. This offers a cross-section of the protagonist's entire career; The audience will enjoy tried-and-true songs from the golden era (Jekyll and Hyde, A Private Journey to Nowhere...), as well as "younger" hits (Vznikla zem, Tak navštiv bar, Poesis Beat...) and two completely new songs.

His work has gained immense popularity and recognition, and his stories, full of absurdity and existential questions, have influenced modern literature and film. Kafka is today considered one of the most important writers of the 20th century, and his work and life remain a source of inspiration and exploration for generations of readers, literary critics and artists across genres.

Director David Radok and his Rusalka as a fateful drama about unfulfilled desires and human failure, about the contradictory conflict between love and erotic desire, a drama about the sinful human soul. Since its creation, Dvořák's Rusalka has been one of the most beloved and performed Czech operas, not only thanks to its beautiful and unique music, but also to Jaroslav Kvapil's poetic and timeless libretto, which conceals endless symbolism. The theme seems to be made for David Radok and a multi-layered production full of strong emotions.
YOUNG BLOOD or MUSIC CLOSE UP IV
The Brno Philharmonic Orchestra Academy is a project that allows young talented musicians – students or recent graduates of music schools accepted on the basis of a selection procedure – to gain orchestral experience in a professional ensemble. In this way, the Philharmonic educates new generations of players who may one day join its ranks. The OAFB has been operating for six seasons and its fruits are already evident: some of its graduates are already members of our orchestra, others regularly return to help out. The importance and value of this experience for the artistic growth of young musicians and for the future of the orchestra is therefore unquestionable.
JazzFestBrno: Tom Skinner
The concert is part of the #vodojemyart project, co-organizer of the concert is TIC Brno. If you are looking for the definition of a modern musical chameleon, Tom Skinner is the perfect example. The London drummer, producer and composer can tame wild jazz improvisations one day and set the rhythm for the greatest icons of contemporary rock the next.
At the beginning was a short novella by the French writer Prosper Merimée about Don José, who deserted the army due to a foolish passion for a wild gypsy woman, became a smuggler and a murderer. Carmen, directed by Tomáš Pilar, returns to the original story and reveals additional layers of individual characters - the characters here are mainly people who came from completely different backgrounds. It is not just about Carmen's fleeting and unbridled love, which the jealous José cannot cope with. It is a clash of two worlds - the orderly, neat world of José and Micaëla, bound by predetermined rules, and the world of gypsies and smugglers living from day to day, without laws and controlled by momentary impulses. Their worlds suddenly intersect, but this difference causes tension and a clash that leads to the complete destruction of both of them. Neither of them is able to prevent it, because neither is willing or able to back down.
