Kafka Band

05/11/25, 20:00 / Kabinet múz (The Cabinet of Muses)

A musical-literary band that works with the work of the writer Franz Kafka in its work. It translates this into an alternative-rock form. The writer Jaroslav Rudiš and the artist and musician Jaromír 99, the authors of the cult comic strip Alois Nebel, came together to collaborate. The band plays with guitarist and producer Dušan Neuwerth and other musicians: Tomáš Neuwerth, Lukáš Morávek, Zdeněk Jurčík, Petr Weiser. The lyrics are based directly on Kafka's work. After the albums Das Schloss and Amerika, the album Der Process was released in September 2023.

Blues Boy Kings are a great blues band from the Midlands of England. They perform all over the UK and gain legions of new fans at every concert they play. This is confirmed by the fact that in 2024 they will be coming to the Czech Republic for the fourth time, this time with special guest Jeff Rich (drummer of Status Quo).

Carmen

06/11/25, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

At the beginning was a short novella by the French writer Prosper Merimée about Don José, who deserted the army due to a foolish passion for a wild gypsy woman, became a smuggler and a murderer. Carmen, directed by Tomáš Pilar, returns to the original story and reveals additional layers of individual characters - the characters here are mainly people who came from completely different backgrounds. It is not just about Carmen's fleeting and unbridled love, which the jealous José cannot cope with. It is a clash of two worlds - the orderly, neat world of José and Micaëla, bound by predetermined rules, and the world of gypsies and smugglers living from day to day, without laws and controlled by momentary impulses. Their worlds suddenly intersect, but this difference causes tension and a clash that leads to the complete destruction of both of them. Neither of them is able to prevent it, because neither is willing or able to back down.

DoOušek + Adam Kubát a Pavel Křivák

06/11/25, 19:30 / Club Leitnerova

A touch of poetry in the cotton of jazzfolk, an alto that caresses you, or at least runs down your back, around it music that is not perfect, but has a soul. Folk, blues, a little acoustic, a little electric, simply whatever a poem calls for. Behind the music of poetry of living and dead poets is guitarist Jirka Vrba, the colors are added by the saxophone and transverse flute of Radek Přibyl, the accordion of Zuzana Křížová, the rhythm is held by the drums of Pavel Jaroš and the fretless bass of Leo Javora, the vocals of Marie Vrbová. Adam Kubát and Pavel Křivák are versatile musicians who have combined their voices in the repertoire of the famous American duo Simon & Garfunkel. In recent years, they have devoted a lot of time to studying solo SG performances, where the incredible alchemy of working with dynamics, harmony, phrasing and experience stands out best. “It seems like an unattainable goal, but at the same time it is an adventure of discovery and a joyful journey for us, where the sum of imperceptible nuances creates a completely different experience for us and the audience.”

The Prostitutes + Guests

06/11/25, 20:00 / Kabinet múz (The Cabinet of Muses)

After a seven-year hiatus, the band got back together in the middle of last year, and the original plan to play a few shows soon turned into not only a tour, including a splashy concert at the Roxy in Prague, but also intensive studio work, which naturally resulted in a collection of songs for a new album. This will be The Prostitutes' sixth LP, released exactly ten years after their last album Zum Passer. And it will be the first release to appear on vinyl. The LP Inevitably Delayed is released on October 10th and you can pre-order it at shop.theprostitutes.cz.

CTIB | Taskent

06/11/25, 20:00 / Alterna

CTIB His roots lie in the DIY punk scene of the small Moravian town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. He was part of a group that organized concerts at the Vrah club, and he played or plays in bands – previously, for example, Telefon or Uštkni, today Chorobopop. In addition to punk, he was also influenced by Czech pre-November folk, so when he started performing solo under the name Ctib, it was initially folk punk with an acoustic guitar. Over time, however, this was no longer enough for him – he started adding drums, bass and synthesizers to his music, which he arranged on his computer. Eventually, he also uploaded a guitar to his computer and stopped taking it to concerts. He called the style he created “discoegopunk”. Taskent Detectives without guns, poetic rap and brass instruments driven by precise dance rhythms. The perfect soundtrack for wandering around the night city and wandering in the depths of your own soul. Taskent is a synergy of authors from two generations, a synergy of electronic music, singing, rap, two trombones and a live rhythm section.

Cyrano de Bergerac

07/11/25, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

The title of the world-famous verse drama by Edmund Rostand in a dance adaptation? Of course! The main character of the play, namely the famous swordsman and poet Cyrano, directly invites you to grasp it in the ballet adaptation. The well-known story is not only about deep love, but above all about the opposition of inner and outer beauty. The nosed, ugly and proud Cyrano, a defender of honor and love with a rich soul, and the beautiful, but empty young man Christian love the same woman, the beautiful Roxana. She chooses the physical beauty in Christian, only to realize at the end of the story that she has loved the beauty of Cyrano's soul all her life.

The Jackal Years

08/11/25, 14:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

The Jackal Years is set in Prague's Dejvice in the late 1950s, living peacefully in its "small town" way in the shadow of the red star at the top of the International Hotel. One day, a young man named Bejby bursts into the world of parents living with the everyday worries of early socialism and their children, whose sense of the "outside world" is determined by the exotic contents of the hotel's trash cans. The innocent dustman causes a stir with his eccentric clothing and passion for "unknown" rock and roll rhythms; the youth are thrilled and the parents despair. Bejby's appearance, amplified in the story by the rock and roll hits of Ivan Hlas, which have now become popular (such as Jednu mi fotr požiadě, Na kolena or Rock'n'roll pro Beethovena), thus marks a key turning point in the lives of a generation of boys. The popular story of dreaming about a different, better world beyond the limits of a desperately gray reality appears on the stage of the Music Stage in our original production and musical adaptation. It is directed by Stanislav Slovák.

Kafka is today considered one of the most important writers of the 20th century, and his work and life remain a source of inspiration and exploration for generations of readers, literary critics and artists across genres.

Szidi Tobias & Band – Okná dokorán

10/11/25, 19:00 / Mahen Theatre

Szidi Tobias sings from the heart what is both expressed and hidden in the words of her husband Petr Lipovský. As she says about herself: "At concerts, I am myself and the team I want to be. Hymns and psalms about love, hope and joy. The one who understands gives us the most." In the music of Milan Vyskočáni, there is a playfulness of melodic transformations and a surprising diversity of genres. Blues, folk, jazz and chanson. Jewish crying, gypsy laughter, Hungarian passion and tenderness. The composition of music is a challenge for the band, which holds them together not only in the notes, but also in the energizing joy of playing together for many years. For decades, they traveled together throughout Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia. They went to their fans from Karlovy Vary to Kráľovský Chlmec to bring people together, to find ancient truths in the words of Petr Lipovský at concerts, to hear the diverse music of Milan Vyskočáni and the soulful singing of Szidi. Lyrics and music are what hold together "like water to flour."

The Witches of Eastwick

11/11/25, 19:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

At the beginning of October 2024, 20 years have passed since the opening of the Musical Stage. The opinions of many naysayers who claimed in 2004 that the Brno City Theatre would own an unused, useless building after a few seasons now seem like just smiling memories. The Brno musical stage has already permanently entered the (not only) Czech theatre map, and the list of premieres listed here is filled with new productions every year, whether they are premieres of original titles or performances of classic musicals. In connection with the celebrations of this anniversary, we have decided to return to a musical that many audiences still remember today. Thanks to almost 150 reruns that have taken place since the premiere in 2007, when people hear the name The Witches of Eastwick, they often think of this production rather than the original book or film, which brought Petr Štěpán the prestigious Thalia Award for his portrayal of the demonic Darryl Van Horn.

Pavel Čadek

11/11/25, 19:00 / Club Fléda

My name is Pavel Čadek and I am a singer-songwriter who plays the cello. It will be a big hit, perhaps even distinguished guests will come and we will play in an extended lineup - Ondra Zámečník (accordion vocals), Adam Sikora (drums, percussion, vocals) and Jakub Šimáně (bass guitar). The concert will feature both new songs from the album and old hits such as Nestíhám or Prsa, but there will also be calmer and more thoughtful songs, so about half of them will of course be about love.

Requiem

12/11/25, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

The autumn concert is in the spirit of the beautiful tradition of our opera company, which is the performance of large vocal-instrumental works, where the great choir and orchestra of Janáček's opera NdB can present themselves outside their classical opera repertoire. This time, it will be conducted by the new chief conductor Robert Kružík, and the evening will belong to one of Antonín Dvořák's exceptional works. His Requiem is one of the most beautiful arrangements of this mass for the dead, although in this case Antonín Dvořák was not inspired by death, but by a much more prosaic reason - the work was commissioned by a music festival in Birmingham, England, and it was Dvořák's London publisher who suggested the mass for the dead. Dvořák therefore conceived it more as a reflection and assessment of the past half century of his life and at the same time as an expression of his relationship with God. The Requiem, divided into two parts, is one of Dvořák's most profound works. Freed from external pomp and composed in a form without closed musical numbers, it is a confession of the composer's view of death.

SALIERI AND HIS PUPILS

In 2025, we commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death and 275th anniversary of the birth of the Italian composer Antonio Salieri (1750–1825), one of the most important opera composers and influential teachers of his time. Today, however, his legacy as a composer is unfortunately unknown to very few people, and Salieri's music has practically disappeared from theatre and concert stages. What's more, his name is shrouded in the shadow of a legend according to which Salieri was a stuffy and less inventive rival (or even murderer) of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; the wider public associates him with this legend because of the "thread" of works of art, which begins with Pushkin's drama Mozart and Salieri (1830), adapted by Rimsky-Korsakov into an opera (1898), and ends with Forman's film Amadeus (1984), based on Peter Shaffer's 1980 play of the same name.

The Witches of Eastwick

12/11/25, 19:00 / Hudební scéna Městského divadla Brno (Music Theatre)

The Young Gods (CH)

12/11/25, 19:00 / Club Fléda

The Young Gods (CH)

Legendary Swiss industrial-rockers The Young Gods return with their 14th studio album, Appear Disappear, due out in June 2025 on Two Gentlemen. On this occasion, the trio, who are celebrating 40 years of their career this year, announce a highly anticipated European tour, which will include The Young Gods at Fleda on November 12th. The guitars are ready and sharpened. The Young Gods, in the rhythm of a galloping world that is spinning out of control, aim and strike with renewed force. From the first second of Appear Disappear, the six-string rushes through space, baring its fangs in an electric howl. The trio returns to its most aggressive roots and revives the art of sonic warfare. In a time when war is everywhere.

The band Springtime has been around since the 1980s. Its repertoire includes mainly folk and non-folk classics from the 60s and 70s, such as Peter, Paul & Mary, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver or Creedence Clearwater Revival, and even the Beatles or Smokie. It sings mainly in English, but at concerts it also performs Czech in songs by Brontosaurs, Rangers and other Czech performers.
