Since its foundation in 2000, the Quartetto di Cremona has built a worldwide reputation as a virtuoso and progressive chamber ensemble. Our festival is also pleased that the quartet's violist – Simone Gramaglia – is one of this year's dramaturgs, as is cellist Peter Jarůšek. Together, the gentlemen will perform a masterpiece of the chamber repertoire – Schubert's String Quintet in C major, sometimes called the "cello quintet" – the author unusually uses two cellos, creating a rich lower register and at times evoking an orchestral impression.

The personality and work of Franz Kafka have inspired and provoked the expression of creators of many artistic genres, literary scholars and experts, as well as the general reading public, not only in the period of increased interest around the centenary of the writer's death. His work has gained immense popularity and recognition, and his stories, full of absurdity and existential questions, have influenced modern literature and film. Kafka is today considered one of the most important writers of the 20th century, and his work and life remain a source of inspiration and exploration for generations of readers, literary critics and artists across genres.

When the excellent cellist Ivan Vokáč is not playing in the Philharmonic, he likes to jam in a jazz club or play tango on the piano. It is this musical openness that brought him together with the excellent musicians from the KBŠ Trio. They have prepared a unique program especially for the concert in Hustopeče: we can expect a stylish interweaving of Claude Bolling, Gershwin's classic concert miniature with a jazz flavor, and even a world premiere, which was composed by Pavel Klimashevsky for his musical friends.

P.O.D. didn't come about overnight and had to work hard to achieve their success in the spotlight of contemporary heavy music. After countless basement gigs and a world tour in a van, they finally signed with Atlantic Records, where they released the album The Fundamental Elements of Southtown in 1999. The concert of four young excellent quartets will be the culmination of master classes that will take place from 16 to 18 June in Kroměříž and will be led by respected chamber music teachers – Peter Jarůšek, Pavel Nikl and Simone Gramaglia. The master class project and the concert of their graduates is an ideal fulfillment of the memorandum of cooperation that the Concentus Moraviae festival signed with the Stauffer Foundation. The foundation, based in Cremona, Italy, at its renowned academy – the Accademia Stauffer – provides education in string instruments and is committed to preserving and developing the unique violin-making tradition that has made Cremona famous all over the world. The Arola Quartet and the Quartetto di Genova are coming to Kroměříž from the Accademia Stauffer, and our festival has selected the Kubit Quartet and the Suk Quartet for this unique program.

A literal soirée à la française awaits us at Boskovice Castle! Quatuor Diotima, an ensemble highly regarded for its ability to connect the French quartet tradition with the subtlest shades of contemporary chamber music, will offer a dramaturgically thoughtful arc of a trio of compositions by its compatriots: the fragmentary structure of excerpts from Pierre Boulez's Book for Quartet is followed by the sound poetry of Bitume by contemporary composer Gérard Pesson, who lets the quartet's sound slowly imprint and disappear like an image on the photosensitive bitumen (asphalt) of time. The program then crowns Debussy's String Quartet in G minor with its infinite shades of quartet colors.

Who could be a better guide to the chamber works of Robert Schumann than the Schumann Quartet, three of whose members are also his namesakes? The four young virtuosos will immerse us in Schumann's romantic depths and offer their modern reflection: the recently deceased Berlin composer Aribert Reimann was a direct descendant of the doctor who treated Schumann at the end of his life, and the Adagio in Memory of Robert Schumann is the result of his intense and very personal collaboration with the Schumann Quartet.

The concert is held in collaboration with the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition; the performance at our festival is one of the prizes that the Opus13 Quartet won as the overall winner of this competition in 2025.

The junior company will present its second premiere in the 2025/2026 season in February under the title NdB 2: Dispute / Archa /Inside. The eighth premiere evening will present three original choreographies created specifically for NdB 2. In a dramaturgically diverse triptych, three different authorial perspectives meet, which develop the interpretive abilities of young dancers and at the same time respond to the themes that accompany them on their path to adult artistic expression.

Johann Strauss Jr. is celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth, so we decided to give him and you a gift in the form of a new production of his famous operetta The Bat. Since its premiere, the humorous story of mistaken identity and the fact that even innocent flirting may not pay off has been a success on leading stages, not just operettas. The Bat has long since become part of the repertoire of theaters such as the Metropolitan Opera and the Vienna State Opera. Today, no one suspects that it all began with the unsuccessful acquisition of the French play Réveillon by Messrs. Meilhac and Halévy. After reading it, the director of Theater und der Wien Max Stein decided not to stage it as a drama, but rather to have it reworked into an operetta libretto, which he would offer to Johann Strauss. He was delighted with Richard Genée's version and had the composition ready within four months. In a short time, a comedy filled with Strauss' sparkling melodies was created, and thus The Bat was born - today rightly considered a jewel of classic Viennese operetta.

This year, we will celebrate World Music Day with a dream concert: the excellent Bennewitz Quartet will perform the divine string quartets of Leoš Janáček and Antonín Dvořák in the impressive arcaded courtyard of the impressive castle in Moravský Krumlov. Canadian music legend Bryan Adams will bring an exceptional acoustic concert to the Janáček Theatre on June 22 as part of the Bare Bones series. An intimate evening in a theatrical setting will offer his most famous songs in their purest form – with only acoustic guitar, piano and characteristic voice. A minimalist show without a big band and big production will allow the songs themselves and the stories behind them to fully stand out. The result is a unique musical evening with one of the most iconic artists of the rock scene.

If you have ever felt like you were in a historical blockbuster during a concert in the breathtaking Hall of the Ancestral Hall of Milotice Castle, the American quartet Calidore will enhance that feeling even more: the renowned ensemble is renowned for its stylistic versatility, and its festival program called Sounds of America naturally includes a trip to Hollywood! It will take the listeners from the lyrical modernism of Samuel Barber, through the film-inspired romanticism of Erich Wolfgang Korngold and the sensitive minimalism of John Williams, to the music of contemporary trumpet wizard Wynton Marsalis, who looked back on his childhood in New Orleans, the cradle of jazz, when composing his quartet.

Chamber ensembles are usually named after their primary conductor or favorite composer; however, the famous Modigliani Quartet chose a bohemian painter as their patron: "We like his perception of art, he was his own and did not deal with trends. When you see a Modigliani, you remember him for the rest of your life. We try to make our sound as easily recognizable as Modigliani's painting," say the virtuoso French artists. And they successfully achieve their goal, which they demonstrate to our audience with a unique performance of a pair of quartets belonging to the basic pillars of the chamber canon.

There are not many important and famous ballets of the classical and romantic era that our company does not have in its repertoire. The pinnacle of ballet romanticism, Giselle, is without exaggeration one of the cornerstones of the DNA of ballet literature. In 1841, the premiere of the new ballet Giselle took place in Paris and was such a huge success that within a decade it appeared on all the major stages of the ballet world of that time. The theme was provided by the German poet Heinrich Heine in his collection De l’Allemagne. The story of girls who died of betrayed love before their wedding and now cannot find peace in their graves was taken up by Théophile Gautier, a great theorist of romantic theatre and librettist Jules Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges. The captivating, lovely and melodic music, filled with French charm, was created by A. CH. Adam. The first performer of the fragile Giselle was one of the greatest dancers of Romanticism, Carlotta Grisi, for whom this ballet was created by choreographers Jean Corrali and Jules Perrot. In the Czech lands, Giselle gained popularity among the audience only slowly. It only reached the Brno stage in the late 1960s, when it was first performed there by choreographer Miroslav Kůra (1968). The audience will certainly remember Jiří Blažek's 1983 grand prix production with the unforgettable ethereal ballerina Soňa Zejdová and later Jana Kosíková in the title role.

The chateau in Velké Meziříčí will welcome the Belgian-French Danel Quartet. The renowned ensemble is a long-time global ambassador of the unmistakably dramatic music of Dmitri Shostakovich and the equally brilliant work of Mieczysław Weinberg, two composers strengthened in the tight conditions of the Soviet regime by a strong friendship and mutual professional respect. We are waiting for an exciting musical dialogue between two compositional masters of the 20th century, performed by the most skilled performers.

Nasty Neighbors is an indie punk band with a home base in Argentina and a German label (Rookie Records/Hamburg) – for the first time in the Czech Republic. Led by a witch, a vampire, a zombie and a mummy, they turn the night into a noisy, dance ritual with a bit of humor and chaos. The band, founded in 2023, has already played around 60 concerts with songs in four languages.

Renowned soprano Simona Šaturová and the award-winning Zemlinsky Quartet will perform works by all four major classics of Czech music in arrangements for solo voice and string quartet at the final concert. And these will be some of the most famous melodies: look forward to Mařenčina's warning If I were to do something like that from Smetana's opera The Bartered Bride or perhaps our most famous opera aria Moonlight in the Deep Sky from Dvořák's Rusalka. The evening will be refreshed by a selection from Janáček's Moravian Folk Poetry in Songs and the enchanting coloratura Lamento Ariadne by Bohuslav Martinů. The program will be marked by the movement Youth, Janáček's masterful wind sextet in a convincing arrangement for string quartet.

The end of the school year is coming. Too Many Zooz are not “just” a band. They are a phenomenon. A trio from New York that created its own genre — brass house — an explosive mix of jazz, EDM, punk and dance energy that cannot be classified, but can be felt immediately. They started in 2013 as buskers in the New York subway. Without a stage, without barriers, just a few meters from the people. That is where their characteristic sound was created — raw, infectious, uncompromising. A video of their performance then went viral on the Internet and started a meteoric rise that made them a global concert sensation. Baritone saxophonist Leo P, trumpeter Matt Doe and drummer David Parks form a line-up that works like a perfectly coordinated machine — rhythm, pressure, groove and showmanship all in one. Leo P also rewrites the rules of what it means to be a frontman of a brass band — movement, energy, contact with the audience.
