Warm summer evenings are best spent under the stars accompanied by music; that is why the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno is once again bringing an opera performance to the romantic setting of Špilberk Castle.

Is Verdi’s famous *Nabucco* merely an opera about the yearning for freedom? Jiří Heřman’s production offers a compelling perspective on the story of the Babylonian king and the Jewish people, centering on family relationships and King Nebuchadnezzar himself. Filled with magnificent choral numbers and captivating vocal parts, this opera has been one of the most popular titles in our repertoire for 35 years.

Total Chaos is one of the longest-running American street punk bands. The California-based group has been active since 1989 and has released eleven studio albums over the course of more than three decades.

Their sound is rooted in the British punk of the early 1980s—drawing inspiration from bands like GBH, Discharge, and the UK Subs—and remains grounded in fast, uncompromising hardcore punk. Frontman Rob Chaos was also a co-founder of the SOS Records label, which released material by bands such as Sham 69, Vice Squad, and The Adicts.

Václav Noid Bárta—the reigning "Golden Nightingale" (Zlatý slavík) award winner—is heading to Špilberk Castle. His distinctive voice, natural energy, and powerful charisma will take center stage, creating an unforgettable atmosphere delivered by one of the most striking performers on the contemporary Czech music scene.

From his early days with bands like Dolores Clan, Noid Crew, and Dymytry, through the world of musical theater, to his current solo work—come and trace the twenty-year musical journey of Václav Noid Bárta, a charismatic singer, film composer, and a unique voice in Czech music.

A concert marking the 300th anniversary of the birth of lutenist Karel Kohaut—one of the last virtuosos of the instrument—who is the subject of a panel exhibition at the Moravian Library scheduled for the first half of 2027.

Soloists Marta Kratochvílová and Jan Čižmář from the ensemble *Les Plaisirs de Musique* will perform works not only by this "last Viennese lutenist"—as Kohaut is often called—but also by his contemporaries, drawn from significant musical collections preserved in Moravia.

The concert program will be hosted by the exhibition’s curator, Jana Franková, Ph.D., who will also introduce the audience to the life story of this largely forgotten musician.

With over 5,000 concerts under his belt, the singer—known for his unmistakable raspy voice—continues to prove that his energy and charisma remain undiminished. Black Magnet are pioneers of the new wave of American industrial metal. *Revolver* magazine aptly described their music as "grinding, searing, and metallic-mechanical"—and that is exactly how they come across live. Expect an aggressive sound, machine-like precision, razor-sharp riffs, and destructive intensity.

Black Magnet have released two full-length albums via the 20 Buck Spin label, while their latest effort, *Megamantra*, came out on Federal Prisoner. The band has shared the stage with acts like 3TEETH, Code Orange, and Chat Pile, and earlier this year, they toured the US with Author & Punisher.

Their lineup also features members of All Your Sisters, Destroyer Destroyer, and Greg Puciato’s backing band. Prepare for a truly heavy, guitar-driven industrial sound that crushes, pulses, and never lets up for a second.

This is the story of the mysterious opera diva Emilia Marty, a fascinating *femme fatale* who turns the lives of everyone around her upside down. Yet few suspect that behind her cool mask and captivating voice lies Elina Makropulos—the daughter of Emperor Rudolf II’s physician—who has lived for over three hundred years thanks to an elixir of youth.

Leoš Janáček composed this penultimate opera based on a famous play by Karel Čapek. While Čapek wrote his work as a conversational comedy with a detective-story plot, Janáček infused it with profound emotion. He created a gripping drama about the human longing for eternal life, but also about the endless weariness, loneliness, and cynicism that arise when death is denied. The premiere took place in 1926 at the *Divadlo Na hradbách* in Brno, attended by the composer himself. It has become one of Janáček’s most enduringly popular operas and is frequently performed on the world’s most prestigious stages.

The National Theatre Brno has prepared this production as part of the "Year of Czech Music"—marking the 160th anniversary of the composer's birth—and as the opening event of the Janáček Brno 2014 festival.

The cult German band Camouflage is returning to the Czech Republic and Slovakia. After a year and a half, they will once again perform for their Czech and Slovak fans. Following the phenomenal success of their previous visit—which included a sold-out show in Prague and a total of three unique concerts—they are coming back. The band enjoys immense popularity among Czech and Slovak fans. Camouflage holds the status of a cult German electronic band, originally formed in 1983. This time, they will perform in Prague, Brno, and Pezinok. They will present their greatest hits—including the timeless "Love is a Shield," "The Great Commandment," and "Suspicious Love"—in fresh arrangements. The setlist will also offer a retrospective of their work spanning an incredible forty-two years, alongside new tracks from their upcoming album. A highlight of this tour is the visual component, featuring special video projections on large LED screens. The band returns energized by the incredible feedback from audiences and long-time fans alike. They have spent two years successfully touring arenas, clubs, and festivals—not only in their homeland but also in the Baltic states, Poland, and, of course, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where they command a massive following. This enthusiastic reception serves as a key driving force for the band, who are delighted by the tremendous interest in their music.

Rising once more from the darkest, filthiest streets of old Philadelphia, Devil Master return to corrupt the children of light with their third album, *Bloody Dreams*. This new Relapse Records release leans further into punk and occasionally delves into psychedelia, yet remains enveloped in the savage aura of raw black metal. The album was produced by Davis M. Shubs and Grammy-nominated sound engineer Eric Bogacz, who imbued the record with a dark, hypnotic sound. A raw black metal-punk ecstasy of blasphemy and existential dread!

Solomonar is a new occult metal-punk band from Brno, inspired by romantic vampirism, morbid visions, the omnipresence of death, mysticism, and heavy drinking.

Kateřina and Dalibor Štrunc and their genre-spanning band, Cimbal Classic, have invited some fascinating guests to this year’s "Pohodový koncert" (Relaxed Concert) at Belcredi Castle in Brno-Líšeň.

You can look forward to performances by Hana Ulrychová of the band Javory and the renowned actress Jitka Čvančarová, as well as *LIDOVĚK*—an intriguing modern folk project by Matěj Metoděj Štrunc—all at a great price within the unique setting of the castle!

A new musical trio led by Ostrava-based singer, composer, and lyricist Barbara Kanyzová presents her current work in an intimate setting.

Together with Jan Kubín (keyboards) and Štěpán Váňa (double bass), they form a balanced ensemble grounded in authenticity and sensitive musical expression. Collectively, they create a space for poetry, intimacy, and the artist's personal expression.

Metastavy returns to concerts after two years and will perform on September 9 at the Brno Kabinet MÚZ.

THE QUEUES

This bearded brotherly duo from Znojmo—whose combined height nears four meters—blends influences from garage rock, lo-fi, punk, and stoner rock with the power of a full-sized band. They successfully translate their signature live energy into their recordings: vocal lines complement distorted guitar riffs—underpinned by bass from a separate amp—which, together with drums often built on machine-like, repetitive beats, form a tight, cohesive whole.

THE LANDMINE SPRING

At the turn of the millennium, The Landmine Spring became a benchmark for indie/emo hardcore. Their sound—influenced by bands like the American acts Quicksand or Texas is the Reason—always remained distinctive. To this day, it bears the authentic stamp of that era, a time when it was not unusual for The Landmine Spring to share the stage with the cult band Fugazi.

CHORA SFAKION

This young post-punk band from Znojmo released their excellent debut album, *Féerie*, last year. A defining characteristic of the band is the unmistakable delivery of singer and primary lyricist Michaela Frindová; her urgent vocals and stage energy make her a superb frontwoman. Dreamy vocals, shoegaze-style distorted guitars, drums that feel almost searing, and basslines that repeat like a mantra. Spoken word, sharp cymbals, screaming, and catchy melodies. Chora Sfakion draw the audience into the action of stories—both fictional and well-known—that captivate with their sheer intensity.

Eversame is a young 4-piece band active since 2022. Their genre diversity ranges from emo to shoegaze, combined with their raw, dreamy and melancholic energy. Thanks to this, they gained attention not only in Slovakia. Their discography consists of two studio albums "tell me where the flowers are" and their latest LP "LOVE ENDS FAST, AND NEVER." Since they have been active on the scene, they have managed to play at festivals such as Pohoda and Rock for People, as well as concerts with bands such as Horse Jumper of Love or Sport. Few groups can create such a strong and intimate bond between band and audience as Eversame.

your somber eyes is a representative of the new wave of Czech shoegaze. Their work oscillates between melancholic post-rock and ambient atmosphere, which they combine with intense guitar parts full of emotions. Their discography consists of the introspective debut EP "Reaching in the Dark" and the more recent single "Bonemarrow", but they often play unreleased songs at concerts.

Folimanka Blues, a Prague-based (and somewhat international) rock band, hasn’t played in Brno for a full twenty years. But on September 11th, they’re setting that right. They will perform at the renowned Metro Music Bar, supported by the fantastic band Bohyně z Volyně. For 33 years, Folimanka Blues has been performing its poignant, dramatic songs—music that can send a shiver down your spine—on stages across Bohemia, Moravia, and abroad. They have released four CDs and, just a few months ago, a unique vinyl LP titled *Odpočívej v pokoji* (Rest in Peace).

Bohyně z Volyně – a mixed-gender hippie trio packed with riffs, grooves, and endless guitar solos that make the girls' skirts and the boys' boxers jump.

On September 11, the duo Dorian & LBOY will arrive at Fleda Club to kick off a show packed with energy, beats, and vibes that won't let you stand still for a minute. Admission for ages 15 and up (those younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).

You may have already seen this actor of Balkan descent in a production at the National Theatre in Prague, which is now his home stage. In addition to theatre, he composes music, writes lyrics, and—as if that weren't enough—dabbles in the visual arts.

For some listeners, jazz is an introverted, intimate genre that seems to require a degree in musicology just to appreciate. Yet, many musicians turn such notions completely on their head—among them, the members of the Snarky Puppy "family."

When Michael League founded Snarky Puppy at the University of North Texas in 2003, he did so—paradoxically—because he had failed to make the cut for any of the school's official ensembles. Little did he know then that this humble student project would evolve into a five-time Grammy Award winner and one of today’s most influential instrumental bands. From the start, the group defied categorization; League himself describes their sound as a "street-bred hybrid" that naturally blends jazz sophistication with the energy of funk, rock, and soul. Success, however, did not come overnight; the musicians spent their first decade endlessly touring in battered vans and playing for handfuls of people in obscure clubs.

Béton Armé is a punk/Oi! band from Montreal, Canada, formed in 2018. Following a self-titled demo on LSC Records (2018), they released their debut EP *Au bord du gouffre* via the French label Primator Crew (2020), a 7-inch split with Violent Way (co-released by Primator Crew and Germany’s Contra Records in 2021), and the EP *Second souffle*, a collaboration between Primator Crew (France) and Roachleg Records (New York, USA). They are heading to Brno with their latest album, *Renaissance*, released in 2025 on La Vida Es Un Mus.

REMDIK (SK)

An unconventional family of straight-edge skins from Žilina, featuring a fresh record titled *Potkany Patria Do Diery* released on Kabinet Records. A group of non-blood brothers whose values ​​are rooted in the worldviews of the classic Boston and New York scenes, yet who remain keenly aware of contemporary issues and modern-day challenges. Expect energetic hardcore punk and Oi! packed with catchy lyrics, distinctive attitude, provocation, and humor.

Two nations are at war, yet amidst the battlefield, a far more intimate drama unfolds—one that could lead to unexpected consequences. The Egyptian princess Amneris loves the commander Radamès; however, his heart belongs to the captive Aida, whose true identity as a princess of the enemy Ethiopian nation remains unknown to all. Unbeknownst to them, they will soon face a choice that determines life or death...

Verdi’s *Aida* is a masterpiece containing all the essential ingredients of Romantic Italian opera: love, jealousy, political intrigue, grand choral scenes, and an inevitable tragic death. Naturally, it also demands a superb cast of singers—in this instance, Csilla Boross, Sung Kyu Park, Luis Cansino, Aleš Jenis, and others. This production also marks the first time our company will collaborate with our junior ballet troupe, NdB2. While Verdi typically selected his own subjects for composition, this project came from an external source. The opera was commissioned by the Egyptian Khedive Ismail Pasha, originally intended for the celebrations marking the opening of the Suez Canal and the inauguration of the newly built Cairo Opera House. Verdi hesitated at first, but the subject matter—set in ancient Egypt and based on a story by the archaeologist Auguste Mariette—eventually captured his interest. It was not the spectacle that drew him in, but rather the intimate drama concealed beneath layers of political intrigue. This enabled him to craft a gripping and timeless story filled with powerful music—from famous arias like "Celeste Aida" and the Triumphal March to the opera’s heart-wrenching final quartet. Productions typically focus on the secret lovers Radames and Aida, but what if we were to view the entire story through the eyes of Amneris? She is determined to win Radames’s love at any cost—unaware that the ultimate price will be human lives, including that of the man she desires.

The band is a fixture of the Czech music scene, having fundamentally influenced the development of domestic rock music through its work and impact. It was founded in 1985 by Robert Kodym (vocals, guitar) and P.B.CH. (bass), who were later joined by Tomáš Waschinger (drums), Petr Franc (keyboards), and Michal Penk (vocals). In 1987, Michal Dvořák brought in singer and drummer David Koller. After several lineup changes, the group stabilized in the early 1990s with the lineup of Robert Kodym, P.B.CH., David Koller (drums), and Michal Dvořák (keyboards).

A major breakthrough came in the early 1990s with the albums *In the Sky* and *Černý kočky, mokrý žáby*. These recordings produced legendary hits that resonated with several generations of fans and remain staples of their concert setlists to this day.

Throughout its existence, LUCIE has won numerous prestigious awards—including ten Anděl Awards—and sold hundreds of thousands of records. Despite lineup changes and periods of touring hiatuses, the band has maintained its distinctive style and concert energy.

A recent anniversary tour across the Czech Republic reaffirmed the band's standing on the domestic scene and the enduring interest of audiences across generations. LUCIE is currently working on a new album titled *R.A.D.O.S.T.*

And, as is the way with good fairy tales, the path to a happy ending is winding and fraught with adventure and peril—and, of course, there are three enchanted princesses in the mix.

The musical and life partners Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto are returning to Kabinet MÚZ with their new album, *Lichtung*!

Alexander Hacke’s musical career is primarily linked to the legendary band Einstürzende Neubauten. He has previously performed in Brno with the project The Ministry Of Wolves, alongside Danielle de Picciotto, Mick Harvey (formerly of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), and Paul Wallfisch (formerly of Swans). However, Hacke’s body of work extends far beyond that; in addition to Neubauten and his solo material, he has collaborated with The Tiger Lillies, Crime & the City Solution, Wovenhand, and dozens of other acts. His distinctive bass playing defines many of the tracks he has composed or contributed to.

Conscious Club II brings a fresh dose of jazz and funk to the Metro Music Bar—an evening centered on music, rhythm, and good vibes in an intimate setting. The program features a special set of Vulfpeck tracks performed by young musicians alongside prominent guests from the Brno scene, such as Šimon "Sajmon" Pavlík, Marek Šudák, and Tadeáš Slovák.

The lineup includes iconic Vulfpeck songs spanning their entire discography—from early hits to tracks from the new album *Clarity of Cal*—presented in energetic, playful arrangements that leave plenty of room for improvisation.

Balet NdB 3 is a platform for exceptional performers in the mature stage of their dance careers. As with the junior ballet company, the inspiration for this concept comes from the approach of world-renowned choreographer Jiří Kylián, who championed the philosophy of the three dimensions of an artistic career at the famous Nederlands Dans Theater nearly fifty years ago.

The Balet NdB 3 project premiered at EXPO 2025 in collaboration with the Brno Philharmonic and Czech piano virtuoso Ivo Kahánek.

On an Overgrown Path

In his interpretation of *On an Overgrown Path*, Mário Radačovský brings stories about the fragility of life to the stage. Through his vision, seven dancers portray vignettes about time—which flows inexorably for us all—and about those moments when the present can suddenly transform into eternity. With its apparent simplicity, Janáček’s timeless music perfectly underscores a choreography that reminds us of an important truth: that every ending also brings the hope of a new beginning.

Two characters—a man and a woman—are preparing a celebratory dinner. The production of Janáček’s *Osud* (Destiny), which opened the Janáček Brno 2020 festival, marks the return of one of the finest opera directors, Robert Carsen.
