GEORG FRIEDRICH HÄNDEL Solomon (Solomon), oratorio HWV 67 Orchestra & Choir of the Age of Enlightenment conductor John Butt The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is one of the world's most famous ensembles of period instruments focused on the informed interpretation of early music. Its history began in the mid-1980s, when it was founded by a group of musicians dissatisfied with common orchestral practice. The ensemble does not have a chief conductor, but is always looking for exceptional artistic partners for individual projects. Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, Iván Fischer have held the conductor's chair, and Sir Charles Mackerras has also worked closely with the ensemble.
