Robert Křesťan a Druhá tráva + host Tony Trischka (USA)

30/10/23, 19:00

Due to the great success of the concert in 2022, we are organizing a concert by Robert Křestťana and Druhé travé in 2023 as well, but now with guest TONY TRISCHKA (American five-string banjo player).

The group Druhá trava was founded in 1991 by Robert Křestťan and Luboš Malina after they left Poutník. The second grass is characterized by two distinctive features – the authorial and interpretive exceptionality of the singer, lyricist and translator Robert Křestťan and the extraordinary instrumental skill of the other members of the group.

The band Druhá trava was ranked among the top on the folk & country scene not only in the Czech and Slovak Republics, right from its inception. Although it is often referred to as bluegrass, it has been mixing several styles since the beginning of its existence. Bluegrass refers rather to the previous engagement of several members of the group with the Pilgrims of Brno.

Druhá trava has so far released 21 albums in the Czech Republic and the USA and is a multiple-time winner of the APH Anděl award in the Folk and Country category. In addition, some members of the band are also implementing their own solo recording projects – banjoist Luboš Malina already has four CDs to his credit, and dobrist Luboš Novotný has released two records so far. As one of the few Czech bands, they regularly tour the United States every year with a very favorable response. The list of important foreign performers with whom Druhá tráva has collaborated or collaborates with includes such personalities as Peter Rowan, Tony Trischka, Davey Spillane, Andy Owens or Charlie McCoy.

For the last album Díl první, in 2021 Druhá trava won Angel in the folk category and Robert Křestťan entered the Hall of Fame!

In October 2022, the group released a new album called Part Two, which was again nominated for the Angel Award.

While the "number one" was dominated by cover songs, the number two is based on original material. In this case too, the group led by frontman Robert Křestűan invited producer Eddie Stevens, known primarily for his collaborations with British dance bands. His experimental approach pushed the distinctive acoustic sound of Second Grass into other contexts. At Birdland Studios at the foot of Slovakia's Súľovské vrchy, he wasn't afraid to include keyboard instruments, synthesizers, non-traditional studio effects or push the band beyond its comfort zone.

The current concert program of Druhé trávy includes a cross-section of Robert Křestťan's work from the entire period of the group's existence, now with an emphasis on compositions from the latest studio albums Part One and now also Part Two.
