The Brno music scene will be presenting the new single Not There by the HiJacks band. The HiJacks, whose roots go back to the South Moravian town of Strážnice. The band made a big splash by winning the 2023 Majáles Band Contest, which gave them the opportunity to play in front of the large Majáles audience. They have already played three concerts on Freedom Square, participated in the Vlakfest and Uprostřed festivals, and more. After last year's début single Hello, they are now releasing a new song and music video Not There. The single is digitally distributed by Supraphon.
The new song Not There features a melodic guitar with inspiration from the British New Wave. The musical dynamics are accompanied by a text about coming to terms with the absence of a loved one. Despite its melancholic theme, the song feels positive and hopeful, as does its music video, created under the direction of the talented filmmaker Štěpán Vašků. The participants of the Brno Majáles, including its current royal couple, are the main characters in the clip.
"Not There is about the fact that sometimes you have to be alone to realise that you miss someone. And that even if you miss someone, you might actually be all right. That's the power of this song. When you watch the clip, it conveys an awfully beautiful energy - sometimes someone simply has to leave to make way for someone else," says frontman Dylan Jack.
The song was written in the spring of this year and follows the band's previous successful collaboration with producer Alois Pospíšil (ex-Trocha Klidu), who was behind their début Hello. Musically-speaking, Not There is based around riffs that show a noticeable shift towards more mature production than the band's previous work. The result is a progressive but accessible pop-rock track. The band is now preparing to record an EP, which should see the light of day early next year.
