Jazz Courtyard celebrates its tenth anniversary year

The tenth anniversary year of the Jazz Courtyard Festival brings performances by student ensembles and celebrates 15 years of jazz being taught at Czech universities. It began back in September 2010 at JAMU in Brno and was joined a year later by HAMU in Prague. Since then, both schools have taught dozens of top musicians who today shape the Czech jazz scene.

This year the celebrations will take place in Prague in the HAMU courtyard, and in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall in Brno. Current students, teachers and guests from abroad will perform - master drummers from the Ghana Dance Ensemble, who have already worked with the two schools in the past, creating an exceptional cultural bridge between the Czech Republic and Ghana. As usual, the festival is organised by the jazz departments of HAMU and JAMU in cooperation with the JazzFestBrno festival. "It's an opportunity for students of both schools to share their experience, for audiences to hear the upcoming generation of jazz musicians for free, and for everyone to enjoy some outstanding music in an inspiring setting," says Vilém Spilka, head of the JAMU Jazz Department.

The Brno part of the festival will take place on 26 June 2025 in the Old Town Hall courtyard. Admission to all concerts is free. Audio from the event will be recorded and the edited version will be subsequently broadcast on the stations ČRo Jazz and ČRo Vltava.
