The Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno is preparing the last four performances of Alcina by George Frideric Handel in autumn. This time, mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená will be appearing as special guest in the role of Alcina.
The opera is about a powerful sorceress, Alcina, who has created a magnificent palace on a magical and beautiful island, where she lures lovers into the net of her power. One is the Saracen knight Ruggiero, who succumbs to her charms and forgets all about his fiancée Bradamante. But she's not willing to give him up and sets out in disguise to save Ruggiero. Magdalena Kožená will play the enchantress Alcina in Handel's opera, to be staged in Brno by Václav Lukes with the Collegium 1704 orchestra. The narrative production was directed by Jiří Heřman. The only four performances will be staged on 17, 19 and 30 November 2025. The last one is scheduled for 2 December 2025.
