Other events planned for the season include the Janáček Brno 2026 Festival. This year’s edition will be a jubilee marking the tenth time that Brno has immersed itself for several weeks in Janáček’s music, his inspirations, his life story and the influence he had on his contemporaries and successors. This year’s motto is ‘ROOTS’, because what we grow from shapes us all. In the work of artists – be they composers, visual artists or performers – their roots are reflected throughout their lives; they may be more or less apparent, but they never disappear. That is why, in this anniversary year, we aim to show what Janáček’s work is rooted in, what it grew out of, and how far it has branched out. The main theme of the festival is the staging of all nine of Janáček’s operas, as produced by the Janáček Opera ensemble of the NdB. The Brno ensemble will be joined in this programme not only by exceptional soloists in the leading roles, but the productions will also feature outstanding international orchestras and conductors.

Since its inception, the Janáček Brno Festival has established itself as one of the very best in the world. It was the first festival in the Czech Republic to win the prestigious International Opera Awards for Best Festival of 2018, and it managed to repeat this extraordinary success by receiving the award once again for 2024. This victory has placed it among just three festivals worldwide to have received this prestigious award more than once.
