The Marriage of Figaro

21/01/27, 18:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

Without boundaries, or beyond them? How long will the true love between Rosina and Almaviva—meant to last forever—actually endure? And at what point does an innocent flirtation with Cherubino turn into something far more serious? Where, in fact, do the boundaries lie in human relationships?

Following the successful production of Handel’s *Alcina*, we once again join director Jiří Heřman to explore the beauty of Mozart’s music—specifically an opera that enjoys enduring popularity the world over. And little wonder: beyond its brilliant, sparkling score—which sweeps you along in a relentless flow, much like a mountain stream—*The Marriage of Figaro* boasts a libretto with the depth and quality of a stage play. This is hardly surprising, given that Da Ponte based his work on the play of the same name by the distinguished French dramatist Pierre de Beaumarchais.

Kafka

22/01/27, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

The personality and work of Franz Kafka stimulate and provoke creative responses from artists across many genres, literary scholars, and experts, as well as from the general reading public—and this extends well beyond the period of heightened interest surrounding the centenary of the author’s death.

His work has garnered immense popularity and acclaim; his stories, replete with absurdity and existential questions, have left their mark on both modern literature and film. Today, Kafka is regarded as one of the most significant writers of the 20th century, and his life and work remain a source of inspiration and a subject of inquiry for generations of readers, literary critics, and artists across various disciplines.

23/01/27, 20:00 / Kabinet múz (The Cabinet of Muses)

Funeral doom metal, imbued with the icy breath of epic black metal and torn apart by the claws of psychedelic noise.

Futile Mourning is a band straddling the axis between Brno and Orlová, featuring members primarily known for their work in high-speed grindcore, hardcore, and crust bands. These four friends—Obstík, Kubýk, Paul, and Marzena—have come together to profess their devotion to a dark, melancholic musical genre; they are currently or were previously involved in projects such as High Purity, Kandar, Marne, Impulsealer, Hibakusha, The Owl/s, and Somnus Aeternus. While this is certainly not the first encounter with slow tempos for some of them, the quartet is united by diverse musical journeys that have now converged.

JFB: Punch Brothers

26/01/27, 18:00 / Sono Centrum

Some musicians appeal to fans of narrowly defined genres, yet their reach rarely extends beyond those boundaries. Then there are the Punch Brothers—along with a select few others—whose music leaves everyone, regardless of their preferred genre, standing in open-mouthed awe.
The American group Punch Brothers—led by virtuoso mandolinist Chris Thile, who delivered a brilliant solo recital at the Besední dům in 2022—are returning to the Czech Republic after several years for an exclusive two-concert engagement in Brno. Widely regarded as the absolute pinnacle of contemporary acoustic music, the ensemble is celebrating its twentieth anniversary and has just released a new instrumental album.

Where does solitude end and closeness begin? And how many of the boundaries that constrain us have we created ourselves?

Program 9 from the NdB2 junior ballet ensemble presents two new choreographies that turn their focus toward the individual—exploring both the inner world and relationships with others. In *Silence Full of People* (*Ticho plné lidí*), Klaudie Lakomá examines various forms of solitude—ranging from the feeling of being alone in a crowd and isolation, to the moment when solitude can become a space for self-discovery. In *At Every End of Light, There Is a Tunnel* (*Na každém konci světla je tunel*), Marek Svobodník ventures beyond the boundaries we construct in our lives—boundaries we eventually begin to perceive even where none originally existed.

These two choreographic perspectives are united by the search for one’s own place—somewhere between solitude and closeness, restriction and freedom, the need for self-protection, and the courage to reach out toward others once again.

Love Potion

27/01/27, 19:00 / Mahen Theatre

Falling in love without losing one’s mind—that is the art of relationships.

Do you need to win someone’s love, or perhaps forget about it altogether? Dr. Dulcamara’s elixir can take care of that! Just one bottle, and the job is done! Love potions have always been among the most sought-after magical remedies for young men and women—you can even find recipes for them on the internet today. It is no wonder, then, that they frequently appear in legends—ranging from ancient, tragic tales, such as that of Tristan and Isolde, to stories with a happy ending that have even inspired operas.

Devil's Wall

28/01/27, 19:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

Who wouldn’t long for true love? The aging Lord Vok of Rožmberk is no exception, yet he has so far failed to find it. His knight, Jarek, has his own beloved Katuška—but he has sworn not to marry until he finds a bride for his master as well. Meanwhile, the hermit Beneš is so keen for Lord Vok to bequeath his fortune to the Church that he succumbs to the temptation of Rarach himself—for even the best of intentions can force us to choose between good and evil!

Joey Green and the RayVille Big Band are heading to Brno, bringing with them a repertoire from the iconic Ray Charles! The RayVille Big Band was founded in 2013 by New York-based singer Joey Green and trombonist Alex Lag. Their energetic performances have earned them a large following around the world.

The ensemble has frequently performed in the vicinity of the Czech Republic, appearing at prestigious Austrian music venues such as ORF RadioKulturhaus, Porgy & Bess, Die Bühne, and Metropol.

The concert at Sono Centrum will offer a retrospective of Ray Charles’s work, spanning from his early beginnings in 1948, when he first started performing with the McSon Trio. Ray Charles’s influence on the global R&B and popular music scene remains evident to this day.

Nabucco

30/01/27, 17:00 / Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theatre)

Is Verdi’s famous *Nabucco* merely an opera about a longing for freedom? Jiří Heřman’s production offers a compelling perspective on the story of the Babylonian king and the Jewish people, focusing on family relationships and King Nebuchadnezzar himself. Filled with magnificent choruses and captivating vocal parts, this opera has been one of the most popular works in our repertoire for 35 years.

Following an enthusiastic reception, the world’s premier all-female Deep Purple tribute band is set to return to the Czech stage. This time, they will perform exclusively in Brno at the iconic Sono Centrum—a venue renowned for its top-tier acoustics and regarded as one of the best concert spaces in the country.

Deep Purple are widely considered one of the most innovative and successful rock bands of all time. They are also viewed as nearly inimitable, possessing a distinctive sound, energy, and musical virtuosity that have influenced generations of rock musicians. Seven years ago, however, that perceived inimitability was challenged: an all-female group emerged on the European scene, successfully bringing the magic of Deep Purple to the stage with a raw, dynamic, and uninhibitedly feminine energy.
