Jazz & Blues Brno 2026: FILIP ŽOLTOWSKI QUARTET (jazz, Gdaňsk, PL)
The Filip Żółtowski Quartet is a jazz ensemble from Gdańsk, Poland, that blends traditional jazz elements with modern electronic sounds and hip-hop influences. The group is currently in the process of rebranding under a new, more versatile name: Yolk.
Founded in 2020 by trumpeter Filip Żółtowski, the quartet is known for combining jazz improvisation, electronic textures (inspired by artists such as Flume and Medasin), and hip-hop-influenced beats. Their music also incorporates elements of Polish folklore and places a strong emphasis on individual expression.
They have released two albums, *Humanity* and *Bibi*—the latter of which leans more heavily into electronic sounds and makes more extensive use of synthesizers. The band has already delivered outstanding performances at numerous festivals across Europe.
The Filip Żółtowski Quartet consists of: Filip Żółtowski – trumpet, synthesizer; Szymon Zawodny – saxophone; Wojdek Wojda – keyboards, synthesizer; and Mikołaj Staňko – drums and percussion.
The Prostitutes + Guest
The Prostitutes are a Czech indie rock band formed in Prague in 2004.
The group gained renown for a raw sound inspired by the British post-punk scene and for their energetic live performances. Their debut album, *Get Me Out Of Here* (2006), was a success; it won numerous domestic awards and helped them build a wider fan base. Their second album, *Hometown Zombies* (2009), was a major event in the music scene and remains highly regarded by successive generations of fans. Their third studio album was produced by Martin Glover—a member of Killing Joke and a collaborator with artists such as Paul McCartney, The Cult, and Depeche Mode. The band's most recent release is the site-specific album *Zum Passer* (2015), recorded in an abandoned hotel in the Ore Mountains. Their best-known tracks include "Sunshine," "Leave It Like It Is," and "Heart Of Stone." Although the band has undergone several lineup changes, it has always maintained its distinctive sound.
Něhy 2026: Barbora Poláková
Following two completely sold-out tours, Bára Poláková returns with a unique project titled *Něhy26*. It features songs in both original and new arrangements, six vocalists, a four-piece band, a distinctive lighting design, and special guests.
“Něhy is a concert, but it is also a theatrical performance. We sought a staging concept where these two forms could meet and complement one another. Něhy [‘Tendernesses’] encompasses closeness, joys, and sorrows. The creative process was an exciting challenge, as we work with several modes of expression: music and lyrics, stage movement, voice-overs, and a specialized lighting design. For the first hour, I don’t speak at all between the songs—I leave space for thoughts and silence. We absolutely love the format that has emerged. That is why we decided to open a new chapter: Něhy 2026. So, come on in—something is bound to happen. Hop!” says Bára Poláková, inviting audiences to the Něhy26 tour.
Nutcracker
The story of young Klárka, set on Christmas Eve, takes us first into the real world of lavish holiday celebrations and then into the realm of Klárka’s dreams. This version by Canadian choreographer Fernand Nault premiered in 1964 and has come to life every winter since, performed by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal. Its highlights include a lively pace and a seamless flow of scenes, but above all, the spectacular set and costume design, which captivates children with its richness and vibrant colors. Join us in a magical world and let yourself be whisked away on a sleigh ride through a snowy landscape. Dance amidst the snowflakes until you reach the Kingdom of Sweets, where the King himself awaits to welcome you. On this fairy-tale journey, alongside the Nutcracker, you will encounter nearly a hundred different characters brought to life by soloists and members of the NdB Ballet, as well as students from the Brno Dance Conservatory and the I. V. Psota Ballet School. A ballet fairy tale for the whole family about the magic of Christmas Eve.

Tigran Hamasyan
Two things are absolutely fundamental about Tigran Hamasyan. He managed to organically infuse jazz with a highly distinctive musical expression possessing an Armenian soul—and he achieved this at a very young age.
COLORFACTORY
Colorfactory is returning to the stage with a lineup featuring David Volenec, Colin Stuart, Jan P. Muchow, Dušan Lipert, Ivo Heger, Iva Stuartová, and Štěpán Tůma. The first opportunity to see the band live this year came in July at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. To mark the 30th anniversary of the film *Šeptej* (Whisper), a newly restored version was screened at the festival, and the band performed in its full lineup prior to the screening.
The band is inextricably linked to the film *Šeptej*; seven tracks from Colorfactory’s debut album were featured on the soundtrack of this now-cult movie directed by David Ondříček. At the time, Colorfactory’s music became a symbol for an entire generation. Their self-titled debut album won the "Czech Grammy" (the predecessor to the Anděl Awards) for Discovery of the Year in 1996.

Tygroo | Nauzea Orchestra
Tygroo
Tygroo play wind instruments and drums. They describe their style as "drum'n'brass," but their music is more of a jungle—a jungle of EDM beats, sharp Balkan melodies, sarcastic rap, and unexpected musical twists. A trance-like pulse thrums, sub-bass rumbles, brass instruments shriek, and the crowd goes wild. It gets hot—fur or no fur. The concert has begun. The tiger is right at home in the jungle.
Nauzea Orchestra
Nauzea Orchestra is an alternative band formed in Ústí nad Labem in 2007; the group has undergone a significant transformation since its inception. Their debut, *Meisterstűck Eins* (2009), was an electroclash record featuring lyrics in German and English, built on Dadaist wordplay and comic-book imagery. Subsequent albums—*The Dark Side Of The Raven* (2011), *Dobro* (2015), and *Štěstí* (2017)—began to incorporate influences from off-kilter country, Krautrock, industrial, noise, and post-punk. Their fifth album, *Láska* (2021), and sixth release, *Ulož tmu*, are performed entirely in Czech.
The band’s current lineup consists of Ondřej Švandrlík (guitar, synthesizer, vocals), David Kolovratník (drums), Ivo Mikšovský (bass), Jakub Švandrlík (guitar), and Klára Suchanková (violin, vocals). The individual members are also long-time participants in various other projects; notably, Ondřej Švandrlík composes incidental music for numerous Czech theaters. David Kolovratník works as a visual artist and created the artwork for the albums *Štěstí*, *Láska*, and *Ulož tmu*. Klára Suchanková is also active in the band Bizarre Band.

London-based producer, pianist, and composer Alfa Mist is a standout figure on the contemporary British nu-jazz scene; his work perfectly embodies the fusion of modern urban culture with deep musical tradition. His musical roots were shaped by hip-hop, dark melancholic beats, and a fascination with sampling. It was his desire to fully grasp the complex harmonic structures of the tracks he was chopping up and sampling that ultimately led him to the piano. He thus evolved from a producer into a visionary artist who found absolute creative freedom in jazz.
The term "nu jazz" covers a lot of ground, and is sometimes even co-opted by less-than-inventive musical projects. The work of Alfa Mist, however, is the exact opposite. His music serves as the voice and pulse of these current days, weeks, and months.
London-based producer, pianist, and composer Alfa Mist stands out as one of the most prominent figures on the contemporary British nu-jazz scene; his work perfectly embodies how modern urban culture can intertwine with a deep-rooted musical tradition. His musical origins were shaped by hip hop, dark and melancholic beats, and a fascination with sampling. It was, in fact, his desire to gain a detailed understanding of the complex harmonic structures within the tracks he was chopping up and sampling that eventually led him to the piano. He evolved from a producer into a visionary artist and performer—one who discovered absolute creative freedom within jazz.
Manchester natives—vocalist Josh Taylor, drummer Jack Kennedy, and guitarist Zack Breen—formed the band in 2017 and have since toured the globe alongside acts like Sum 41 and Ice Nine Kills. They have repeatedly proven their ability to keep a sweaty crowd energized, whether at Rock for People (in 2024 and 2025) or during their own headline shows; we last saw them perform in Prague and Brno last year.
Now, they are returning with their second studio album, *The Fallout* (2026), marking a shift toward a heavier sound. The opening track, "Trophy," immediately lays their cards on the table, with the vocalist’s screams cutting through an untamed alt-metal soundscape. A standout moment is the track "Violence," featuring Bethany Hunter Jiménez of As December Falls; it opens with dramatic electronic elements before kicking into a massive riff. Throughout the album, the band delves into introspective themes of self-doubt and reflection. This is not a commercial product, but rather a personal confession from every member of the band.
Munly & The Lupercalians (USA)
Munly & The Lupercalians return to Kabinet MÚZ on November 29th! Alongside the renowned rodeo-style show of Slim Cessna's Auto Club and its intimate counterpart, Denver Broncos U.K. (or DBUK), their arguably most acclaimed incarnation is also taking the stage. With this project, Munly continues to operate at the intersection of alt-country, gothic rock, blues, and gospel—albeit in a somewhat darker guise.

The Bartered Bride
How do you sell a bride? Ideally, through a production directed by Ondřej Havelka. Bedřich Smetana’s *The Bartered Bride*—one of the most popular Czech operas—has been in the repertoire of the Brno theatre for twenty years, yet it has lost none of its wit or appeal to audiences.
The story takes us to a village where Jeník and Mařenka, two young lovers, live. However, Mařenka is expected to marry the son of the wealthy farmer Mícha, to whom her father is in debt. Yet the young woman has no intention of simply giving up on her love and refuses to marry the chosen suitor. Jeník takes a clever approach, making use of the matchmaker Kecal. However, the couple fails to share their plans with one another, and things get a bit complicated... Ondřej Havelka has created a masterfully staged musical production; while rooted in beautiful folk traditions, it offers a distinctive perspective on the opera. It is set not during the usual summer harvest festival, but during Masopust. You can therefore look forward not only to the traveling players in Act 3 but also to an array of authentic Moravian *fašank* masquerade figures.
