For the first time in its history, Met will present an opera by an African-American composer. The libretto was written by film director Kasi Lemmons. The work is a painful probe into the life of a young man who is trying to overcome the current traumas and obstacles. James Robinson and Camille A. Brown, who recently collaborated on the operas Porgy and Bess, also co-direct. The young talented baritone Will Liverman will play Charles and his stage partners will be the popular Angel Blue in the roles of Fate / Solitude / Greta and Latonia Moore in the role of Billie.
