• Multimedia cello concerto The Map (2002) by Academy Award winning Chinese composer Tan Dun, who wrote music for the famous movies Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero
• Work written for the illustrious cellist Yo-Yo Ma
• Reflections of slowly disappearing ancient shamanic rituals and music of Hunan province in South Central China, the landscape of Tan Dun’s childhood
• “Documentary” video and original recordings ably incorporated into an orchestral work
• Our British resident artist of the season, Matthew Barley, often escapes to the Far East to draw inspiration and energy from its cultures
• Mussorgsky’s popular Pictures at an Exhibition in a colourful and spectacular orchestral version by Maurice Ravel
• Alan Buribayev, Kazakh chief conductor of Dublin’s RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra
