Quartet in F Major "American", Op. 96, No. 12 (Lento, ar. David Walter)
Bedrich Smetana
Vltava (arr. for wind quintet)

The not very well-known but very successful arrangement of Smetana's Vltava for wind quintet emphasizes completely different positions of this symphonic poem than the arrangement for four string instruments and piano presented two days earlier in Boskovice. Also Dvořák's famous String Quartet in F major, Op. 96 American was adapted for wind quintet; we will hear her most successful part, Lento, from this arrangement. The program also includes two wind quintets by authors of the second half of the 20th century, of which Wind Quintet Op. Václav Trojan's 8 is the composer's adaptation of Czech folk songs, while Kalabis's Divertimento seems like it was created for one of Jiří Trnka's magical puppet films.
