Josef Suk wrote Meditation on the Saint Wenceslas Chorale when anxious about the fate of the nation in the bloody confusion of the First World War. Beethoven, who experienced a new influx of joie de vivre after recovering from a drawn out illness, placed the captivating the Holy song of thanksgiving of a convalescent to the Deity in his A minor quartet.
