Villanellas, canzonettas or arias, written in the 17th century by Italian, but also French and Spanish composers, are similar to today's pop songs. Catchy melodies, rhythmic guitar chords, improvisations. Today's songs may differ in style, lyrics, expression... but the basic structure, the basic "beat" has not changed since Baroque times. Pierre Pitzl invited Marco Beasley who is well know to our festival audience, to gently tap together on cocoons in which ancient songs are resting. Just a few chords and a hint of melody and butterflies begin to flit in the air. It's that easy.
