BÁRA ZMEKOVÁ
Composer and singer moving in her songs with original Czech lyrics between jazz, folk, classical music and fine electronics. He lightens the fragility and urgency with humor and perspective, and he alternates piano playing with synthesizers. Listeners refer to her concerts as "soul trip" or "poetry in music", but it was also heard that "I have never been driven by music like this before."
Bára Zmeková came to the attention of listeners in 2013, when she won the 1band2play competition, appeared for the first time on the stage of the Colors of Ostrava festival and released her debut album Just a little bit. She participated in the creation of important music compilations (Hommage to Bulis, Kittchen - Akt, Superhrdinky, etc.) and in October 2016 she performed at the concert of the Swiss singer Sophie Hunger in the Akropolis Palace in Prague.
She confirmed her position on the Czech alternative music scene with the release of her second album Lunaves (2019, Tranzistor label), which won not only a place on the first ranks of the annual charts of Radio 1 or Proglas and was included among the musical acts of the year in the magazines Headliner and MusicServer, but also in Báře brought two nominations for the Music Academy of Popular Music Anděl award, in two main categories - Solo Performer and Discovery of the Year. Bára and her band also convinced the expert international jury of the Czech Music Crossroads festival that the Lunaves album is not only a high-quality recording, when she took home both possible awards from the show, the audience award and the expert jury award, and was subsequently chosen to represent the Czech music scene at the largest international showcase festival of world music WOMEX 2020.
Since then, Bára has been performing in Czech and foreign clubs and festivals (Opus Jazz Club Budapest, Jazztone Dresden, Drom Taberna Toronto, Colors of Ostrava and others), she has released several singles and also an album recording a live performance with the band at Gong in Ostrava as part of the Colors festival of Ostrava, under the title Live at Gong (2022, Tranzisotr). He is now finishing his third studio album called Jedný na světá, which will be released in March 2024 on the home label Tranzistor.
