Title:
Cendrillon (Cinderella)
Choreography:
Thierry Malandain

The dream of a better life, of justice and simple good fortune – this story was told to Wilhelm Grimm by the ‘Marburg Fairy Tale Woman’ Elisabeth Schellenberg, who spent much of her life in an infirmary and knew all too well from her own experience the weight of the suffering described in the story of Cinderella. In Thierry Malanda's Cendrillon set to Sergei Prokofiev's ballet music, the Cinderella story is about the career of a dance star. The road to the top is strenuous and uncertain and leads to success only through adversity, pain and hope. Tragic, comic and symbolic images form this vision of Cendrillon, which, according to the choreographer, ‘emerged from ashes and magic’.
