// ABOUT LUBOS SOUKUP QUARTET

Lubos Soukup Quartet (CZ, SK, DE, DK) has been playing modern jazz since 2012 and has performed at many venues and jazz festival around the Europe. All their music has been written exclusively by the band leader — the saxophonist Lubos Soukup. Their music is very colorful, rhythmical and full of exciting improvisations. The band has already recorded two albums (Beyond the Borders, Through the Mirror) and they are releasing a new one called Země (Earth) featuring the African guitarist Lionel Loueke.

Lubos Soukup, originally from Czechia, studied at three European music conservatories, including the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, in Copenhagen. Eventually, he fell in love with the Scandinavian music tradition and settled down in Denmark. He has received the Music Talent Award 2017 from a Danish music union early this year.

Apart from the band leader, the quartet consists of the German pianist Christian Pabst, who brings fresh lyrical poetry to Soukup’s compositions. The rhythm section is represented by the Slovak bassist Rastislav Uhrík, who is well known on the Czech scene (Lanugo, Vertigo, Lenka Dusilová). He ensures that the foundation of the music is mature and solid. Finally, Morten Hæsum is currently one of the most sought-after drummers rising in the Danish jazz scene. His highly interactive and explosive playing brings out the best of his band-mates and animates the compositions.
