The National Theater Brno opens the theater season

06/09/17, 18:00

We invite you to sample the delights of our upcoming season! In an open-air concert on Brno’s Zelný trh, the orchestra of the NTB Janáček Opera with its chief conductor Marko Ivanović will accompany our soloists in a programme of arias and ensembles representing the best of the new productions to be staged at the Mahen Theatre and the Brno Exhibition Centre from September to next June.

On Wednesday 6th September starting at 6pm on Zelný trh, you can enjoy excerpts from one of Mozart’s most popular operas, Così fan tutte, sparkling melodies from Donizetti’s L’elisir d‘amore, dramatic moments from Gounod’s full-blooded opera Faust, and the world-famous aria Ja vas ljublju from Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades. On top of that, we’ll be presenting some of the jewels of our current repertoire: you are sure to recognize the choral numbers from Dvořák’s The Devil and Kate, Ponchielli‘s La Gioconda, Puccini‘s Turandot, Rossini’s Le compte Ory, and the grand finale, Va pensiero from Verdi’s Nabucco performed by the chorus of the NTB Janáček Opera. The Concert to Launch the 2017/18 Season will feature the soloists Václava Krejčí Housková, Daniela Straková Šedrlová, Jana Šrejma Kačírková, Pavla Vykopalová, Roman Hoza, Ondřej Koplík, Igor Loškár, Jiří Sulženko and Jan Šťáva.

As well as our new opera line-up, we’ll also be giving you a sneak preview of the NTB ballet’s programme – numbers from an eagerly anticipated ballet with choreography by Mário Radačovský to the music of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, and Solor and Nikiya’s pas de deux from Minkus’s La Bayadère with choreography by Jaroslav Slavický. For those who arrive at Zelný trh early, there will be family entertainment from our Grandads on the Loose from 5pm. But you can drop by the square throughout the day: from the early morning we will be catering to your every taste with heavenly ice cream, excellent coffee, delicious sweets and high-quality wine – and those who prefer a tasty piece of meat and a cool beer won’t go hungry or thirsty either. There will also be stalls with plenty of information about the National Theatre Brno as well as the latest fashion and designer items at a one-day Fashion Market.
