New Year’s Eve at the Opera

A musical New Year’s gift from the Janáček Opera rounded off with fireworks!

New Year’s Eve. Do you find yourself racking your brains each year for an original way to spend it? A way to make the transition to the new year more enjoyable? How about spending New Year’s Eve in Brno, a city which has poetry, style and excellent restaurants, cafés and hotels, and which lies on the intersection between Vienna, Bratislava and Prague? And why not at the opera? Come and spend a pleasant evening at the Janáček Opera, which is offering an early-evening programme of popular melodies from operas, operettas and musicals under the baton of its charismatic chief conductor Marko Ivanović.

The programme will feature famous numbers from The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach, The Bartered Bride by Bedřich Smetana, The Devil and Kate by Antonín Dvořák and Le compte Ory by Gioachino Rossini, and as well as a generous helping of musical jokes it will also include charming pieces from operettas: Sweet Blondes from Nedbal’s Polish Blood or the Can-can from Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld. The orchestra and chorus of theJanáček Opera NdB will also be joined by the Brno Children’s Choir

The evening will culminate in a fireworks display on the forecourt in front of the Janáček Theatre! So come and raise a glass of champagne with us and join us in wishing that the new year will bring only good things!
