Trio Ponk was founded in Brno in 2013 and is currently playing in a cast
Michal Krystýnek - vocals, violin
Eduard Tomaštík - dulcimer
Pavel Rajmic - double bass, bass guitar
The Moravian origin of all three members was the initial springboard for their common musical language. Although the members of the trio have undergone classical music training and later playing in folk bands in the Moravian region, they try to admit other musical styles, such as rock, blues and jazz.
Ponk transformed all these influences into his debut album Postfolklor (2015), on which he works with the original folk song in a completely genre-like way. Through acoustic instruments used most often in Moravian folk music, it creates a special character absorbing contemporary musical genres. The author's title Postfolklor clearly defines the original roots of the band and reflects the intention to translate Moravian folklore to the general public by current means.
The Postfolklor record won the Anděl 2015 award in the Worldmusic category. An international jury of experts nominated Ponk as the first Czech singing band to perform at the prestigious music fair WOMEX - The World Music Expo, which took place in October 2016 in Santiago de Compostela.
At the end of 2018, Ponk released his second album Diedina, which was nominated for the prestigious international award Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik in February 2019.
