The songs of The Velvet Underground in a philharmonic arrangement

Exhibition and lecture about A. Warhol

Accept the invitation and experience the premiere of the music and art project UNIVERSAL UNDERGROUND on Friday, February 23, 2024.
A completely Velvet evening will offer a pop-art exhibition, a lecture on Andy Warhol and, above all, a concert philharmonic performance of a total of 16 compositions from THE VELVET UNDERGROUND workshop performed by a symphony orchestra, electric guitar, keyboards and four voices.

UU's repertoire consists of two purely "velvet" albums. And that from the legendary banana number one THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO (1967), from the trio THE VELVET UNDERGROUND (1969) and a third of the setup is selected from the exceptional and also the last joint album of the author duo LOU REED & JOHN CALE: SONGS FOR DRELLA (1990), which both musicians composed as a personal tribute and tribute to the memory of Andy Warhol.

The art project UNIVERSAL UNDERGROUND was founded in 2023 and its main representatives are musicians Jitka Charvátová – vocals (Fiction, Skyline, Oceán, Mia Bohemia), Tomáš Hradil – guitars, vocals (Los Perdidos, Chorchester, I vši) and Petr Kučera – keyboards (Ocean, Shalom, The Brothers Karamazov).

The author of the orchestration is composer Michal Nejtek, the curator of the exhibition is Miroslav Houška (popartshop.cz) and the lecture will be led by Rudo Prekop, photographer and co-author of the book Andy Warhol and Czechoslovakia.

The project is ready for implementation in several variations: philharmonic / string quartet / rock band / trio. The philharmonic premiere will be accompanied by the Brno orchestra Virtuosi Brunenses with conductor Karel Mitáš, and the special guests of the evening will be the musicians Eva Turnová and Tomáš Vtípil.
