Why shouldn't we look forward to Smetana?
In 2024, it will be 200 years since the birth of Bedřich Smetana – a composer who laid the foundations of Czech music and, in a broader context, Czech culture. As part of the Year of Czech Music, the Smetana200 program will take place throughout the country, the basic goal of which is to celebrate the personality of Bedřich Smetana and his work, spread awareness of his music and, in this context, promote the image of the Czech Republic as a country with enormous musical and cultural potential. Not only in connection with this anniversary, the Brno Municipal Theatre decided to look at one of Smetana's most famous works through its own lens and chose the comic musical play The Bartered Bride for a new premiere at the Bishop's Court. It is certainly no surprise that the audience will not be presented with the traditional performance of the popular Prodanka, but rather a new original treatment of this iconic work. In 1883, Vilém Černický, a civil servant, journalist, publicist and editor of Textilní listy, wrote a one-act comedy entitled Why Should We Not Be Happy? The play was dedicated to the Czech National Theatre Cooperative in Brno, which at that time had been actively trying for two years to create the conditions for the establishment of an independent Brno theatre, performing regularly in Czech in what was until then, in terms of culture, almost exclusively German.
BEETHOVEN'S SECRET
During the big cleaning of the Besední dům, we found a chest. What's in it? We don't know! But it seems that it could have belonged to the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven himself!!! We haven't been able to open it yet, but we believe that it will reveal many of the composer's secrets right in front of our young listeners. The interactive concert is intended for listeners aged 6-12. hosted by: Kristýna Drášilová and Josef Škarka conducted by: Zdeněk Nádeníček performed by: Brno Philharmonic Orchestra venue: Besední dům length: 60 minutes the program is suitable for pupils of the 1st and 2nd grades of primary schools
Meeting point: park on Moravian Square What?: Textile workshop, Midsummer pilgrimage through the city and ritual bath Capacity of participants limited to 15 people Mandatory registration by email: efemer.info@gmail.com Bring: small towel, bath towel Around the time of St. John's Day, the sun reaches its peak in its path. Nature is saturated with a unique energy, which, however, soon begins to transform, first decreasing almost imperceptibly and at the end of August already noticeably weakening, put into the ripening of the first autumn fruits. Our ancestors celebrated this period with cheerful and uninhibited dancing by the fires, collecting medicinal Midsummer herbs and also with ceremonial baths to preserve health. Today, many of these ancient traditions have been forgotten. Perhaps they are completely invalid for today's people, but perhaps, on the contrary, they still have the ability to connect people to the natural cycle. Please accept our warm invitation to a magical celebration of the peak of summer in the center of a parched city. First, Brno-based fashion designer Hana Kubešová and I will create a multifunctional scarf from white linen, into which we will collect Midsummer herbs while wandering through the city together with artist Efemér.
Manon Lescaut
Director Stanislav Moša is staging Nezval's text for the second time, having first done so in 1995, when the theatre celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with this production in the newly renovated hall on Lidická Street. At the time, the director and manager wrote about Nezval's text: "There is little Czech theatre literature that can be said to be a poem. Through it speaks a true passion bound by an amazing form enchanted in the beauty of the Czech language." Moša's adaptation of Manon Lescaut, which was subtitled "lyrical drama-confession", broke away from the linear narrative of the well-known story and created a timeless parable. The old abbé de Grieux recalls his fateful relationship with a sinful saint, which gives the originally lyrical story dramatic dimensions and brings to life long-ago secrets, hints and loves in the memories of a man at the end of his life.

Festival Uprostřed: HIJACKS
The band from the folklore center of Strážnice in South Moravia has accomplished quite a lot in terms of live performances during their existence. Repeated performances at Brno's Náměstí Svobody, including the opening concert of Majáles, and full legendary Brno clubs Fléda, Metro, Melodka, Artbar, etc. Last year they released their debut single and video for the song Hello and are now preparing to record more music.
The Crocodile from Svratka or Mozart in Brno
The varied musical comedy show combines two essential and traditional values of the Brno City Theatre. The first is the connection to the Bishop's Court, which will become the summer stage of our theatre for the fourteenth time, in accordance with the tradition that we present here mainly world premiere productions that are written specifically for this magical environment. We are also preparing for next year the realization of an original play that draws thematically from the history of our city and for which the use of the fate of an extraordinary personality connected to our city is significant. The second value is the extraordinary singing and musical potential of our artistic ensembles.
The musical IN THE MIDDLE
JAMU students reimagine old local Brno stories in their own image. Using today's language, a cheeky and unbridled interpretation of youth, we look back to ancient times when everything was completely different and yet a bit the same. A dynamic short story in which a multitude of characters alternate in an entertaining and dynamic interpretation by five young actors. Violin, cajon and guitar, the tempo is more than dizzying, the wilderness is exuberant. Author and director: Dodo Gombár Production design: Kateřina Vojáčková Music: collective Performers: Terezie Vosáhlová, Irena Freudenschussová, Máří- Magdalena Fotrová, Václav Holinka, Jan Augustin.

We will present a magnificently conceived cross-section of the work of the greatest genius of European music: opera arias and concert music will be heard here, Mozart's melodies will be heard "as we know them", but also in original and distinctive rock and jazz arrangements. All this with the powerful, symphonic-sounding orchestra of our theatre.
Festival Uprostřed: Dailla
Dailla is a singer who sings and composes with her heart and creates with emotions. As a psychology student, she is fascinated by how people feel, think and connect – whether it is love, confusion or frustration with social expectations. “I can be bolder and freer on stage. It is my way of resisting the pressure to be perfect,” she says. In 2023, she collaborated with alternative producer Rhys Braddock, thanks to which her sound shifted towards a more experimental expression. Since 2024, she has been working with producer Marcello, a well-known name on the Czech pop scene, who helps her songs acquire a distinctive and modern sound. Her previous singles such as Middle Stone, Hide and Seek, Running Wild, Cupid or River Flow combine catchy melodies, playful arrangements and distinctive production – music that will stay in your head and you will love to dance to it.

Janáček's Birthday
Celebrate Janáček's 171st birthday on July 3rd on the piazzetta in front of the Janáček Theatre. Come and celebrate Leoš Janáček's birthday for the second time with us. Our famous composer will be 171 years old this year – and he deserves a real party. The afternoon will belong to our little audience with a fighting game in the park. Or you can just sit on our steps and listen to a chamber concert that will get you in the mood for the screening of Janáček's opera The Adventures of the Cunning Little Fox from the English Glyndebourne Festival, starting at 8pm. The event's partner is TIC Brno, which will prepare other events, such as a guided walk along the Janáček Trail. Admission to the entire event is free.

SPYDER & Frank
Ivo "Spyder" Křižan - an American musician of Czech origin, has played and collaborated with many prominent musicians such as Jeff Beck, Doug Lunn, Henri Bozzie, Mitch Mitchell and others. For many years he played in black club bands, especially in California, which were a great school of rhythm and blues for him. Spyder alternates his musical activities both abroad and on the Czech music scene, and his concert promises an extraordinary musical experience.

Female and male duet, two guitars, cajon. We mainly focus on rock music. We intersperse covers with our own creations - or vice versa.
Eliška/Rejčka
The world premiere tells the story of two women. The Czech Queen Eliška Přemyslovna, mother of the Father of the Fatherland Charles IV, and her great rival, Eliška Richenza, called the Czech Rejčka, the richest woman in Europe at the time. Two contemporaries wanted the same thing, personal happiness in a contented country. Each tried to achieve it in her own way and often each was the biggest obstacle to the other and at the same time each had to fight with herself. A historical fresco about the fact that when two women do the same thing, it is not the same.

Festival Uprostřed: Elsewhere
Elsewhere is a dynamic musical collective, based in the Vysočina / Brno region. They blend genres and create a kaleidoscopic experience, rooted in improvisation and collective emotions. Their music defies categorization and effortlessly combines elements of indie, pop, alternative and jazz. The band consists of Jiří Šefl (guitar and vocals), Sára Suková (keyboards and vocals), Lenka Titzová (drums, percussion and vocals) and Jakub Mička (bass and synthesizer). Their diverse musical experiences and knowledge allow them to create soundscapes that are both sophisticated and spontaneous, embodying the essence of their artistic exploration. The connection and chemistry began to manifest in the improvisation that refined their style and led to the creation of music that resonates with the shared experiences of those who feel “outside” in this chaotic world. Join us on a journey beyond the ordinary: Let yourself be guided by “Elsewhere!”

Night at Karlštejn
The original comedy by Jaroslav Vrchlický, which was later made into a famous film, premiered at the National Theatre in 1884 and soon became very popular. Its fame grew even more after 1973, when Zdeněk Podskalský made a film musical comedy of the same name, which is already part of the golden fund of Czech cinematography. It doesn't matter that the plot, according to which women were not allowed to enter Karlštejn, is just a legend. The charter from 1357, which probably inspired Vrchlický, only states: "We forbid anyone to sleep or lie with any woman, even if she is a lawful wife, in the tower of Karlštejn Castle, in which the chapel is located." The only restriction, therefore, concerned the sacred chapel of the Holy Cross, otherwise the castle was accessible to women. However, popular stories do not have to be based on a true basis. The romantically idealized and humorous story from the life of the father of the country became immortal thanks to the film adaptation with such actors as Vlastimil Brodský, Waldemar Matuška, Miloš Kopecký, Karel Höger, Jana Brejchová and Jaroslav Marvan, for whom the role of the burgrave was his last film work. The audience appeal is also guaranteed by the now popular songs with melodies by Karel Svoboda.

Roman Hampacher
Roman Hampacher is a musician, pastor and dreamer whose roots extend far beyond the borders of folk. He has been on the scene for more than 25 years and has gone through many different groups before finally - at least for a while - anchoring himself in the waters of indie folk. Since 2018, he has been releasing his recordings with iron regularity, including his latest Stromen (2023), a conceptual recording about the landscape and the way out of the city. Roman's music is based on an acoustic guitar, to which he frequently uses various "hejblats" including a looper, and so, although he is mostly alone on stage, he manages to create an impressive atmosphere and draws his listeners into the colorful colors of his worlds. And the second integral component are the lyrics of the poet Mirka Hedbávná from Třebíč.
Currently an eight-member formation crossing the borders of the Moravian-Romanian-Indonesian Babylon and creating their own songs of various branches of reggae, ska and Latino. The band has more than fifteen years of history and hundreds of concerts not only throughout the Czech Republic, but also foreign stays in Austria, Poland, Italy and Slovakia. In 2021, the band's work seeped into all digital music platforms, where you can taste both new and older hits. Reggay dealt with the worsening epidemic situation by recording an epic album, resulting in the CD Let's Party. Almost a year later, the band again closed itself in the bowels of the atomic bunker with a studio and planted 3 new seeds on the so-called 'JUST ONE TAKE'.

Festival Uprostřed: Caramel
The sad guys from Brno blend melancholic lyrics with heavy rhythms in their music, balancing on the edge of emo rock and post punk. They debuted on the scene with their EP Labutě, which reflected the Covid crisis and addressed the topic of separation between lovers during the lockdown and closed borders. Since then, they have released several singles and the EP Terapie, where they mainly experimented with the blending of genres/sounds. The latest single Jizvy focuses on the topic of self-love. Why not start loving all those scars that adorn our bodies?
Dan Bárta & Illustratosphere
Dan Bárta, an eleven-time winner of the Anděl Award in the categories Singer of the Year and Singer of the Quarter Century, became widely known in the 1990s with the band Alice and his performance in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. He also became an integral part of the cult J.A.R. His broad musical outlook was used from the danceable Sexy Dancers to popular songs from films (including Snowboarders, Rafťáci, Horem pádem) to jazz associated with, for example, the Robert Balzar trio. He left his distinctive mark on a number of other domestic musical projects and also performed with the greats of the world music scene (for example, with the phenomenal singer Bobby McFerrin or with Sting's court guitarist Dominik Miller).

The band Žalman & Spol will start another music season in 2022 with a new selection album, which will feature twenty of the most popular songs chosen by the fans themselves and the band decided to re-record them in the current lineup. The last line-up change took place in February 2017, and his current bandmates are singer Michaela Hálková, guitarist Petr Havrda and bassist Petr Novotný (the latter since 1994).

Folk Summer Řečkovice 2025: Roman Horký & Kamelot
Roman Horký does not favor any musical style. He gives his songs the coat he feels belongs to them. Sometimes more modern, sometimes more traditional. They are united by their common spirit. Many of Roman Horký's more than three hundred compositions resemble diary entries of the moods and feelings of the singer-songwriter's soul. When we go through his albums, it is as if we have one human life in the palm of our hands. In his records of happiness or sadness, we feel a reflection of what we ourselves live through.
Folk Summer Řečkovice 2025: Folk Team
Folk Team was formed in 1974. Until 1989 it was mainly a club band, playing folk. After 1989 it gradually electrified and plays folk rock. The backbone of the band is: Roman Venclovský - vocals, guitar, Ivan Huvar - vocals, guitar, lyricist, Pavel Kopřiva - violin. In recent years, the following have also played in the band: Roman Jež - keyboards, Dalibor Dunovský - bass guitar, Pavel Bříza - drums, Vratislav Lukáš - cello.
