Katarzia is preparing two exceptional concerts. In Brno they’ll be appearing at the Fléda club

Singer-songwriter, composer and producer Katarzia is preparing two concerts with her band. They will be played in Brno and Prague. Both performances will feature a special line-up combining acoustic instruments and electronics. The music and lyrics will be enhanced by projected works of Czech-Icelandic artist DVDJ NNS. In addition, the Brno concert will be filmed by Czech Television under the direction of Tereza Reková. At the same time, Katarzia will be presenting some new work - her electronic album "Rest in Euphoria" with music composed for the eponymous performance of Prague's Cirk La Putyka will be released in early December.

Last year, Katarzia returned to the acoustic form of her work on the album "Št'astné dítě", which received two nominations at the Slovak FM Radio_Head Awards, and put together a band consisting of Robin Galia - keyboards, Miloš Klápště - bass guitar and Oliver Lipenský - drums. However, this basic line-up will be expanded for the upcoming special concerts in Brno and Prague with the addition of Aid Kid - electronics, František Vaníček - trumpet and Simona Hulejová and Erika Rein - vocals. The visual side of the performance will feature projections created to go with Katarzia's lyrics by Czech-Icelandic artist DVDJ NNS and light design directed by Tomáš Košt'ák. “I see these two upcoming gigs as special concerts, where we’ll be going through several albums with the band and Aid Kid, and are preparing new visual projections by Kateřina Blahutová aka DVDJ NNS, with whom we’ve been working since Antigona," says Katarzia. "We were inspired by metal and funeral poeticism as a metaphor for sadness in music. We want to shift the traditional black as the colour of mourning to pink. I think my lyrics are best understood by women and sensitive people, and that's why I'm looking forward to taking the stage with other female singers who write music, lyrics and songs themselves," she adds. The Brno concert will be recorded by Czech Television, directed by Tereza Reková, and is planned to be aired next year. Guests on both nights will be jazz band Baron Haze, which also includes Robin Galia and Simona Hulejová, part of the Katarzia line-up.

The Brno concert is scheduled for 19 November at 8:00 p.m. at the Fléda club in Brno.

In addition to gigging, Katarzia is also coming out with something new. The release of her new album "Rest in Euphoria" is scheduled for 7 December, containing music composed for the theatre production of the same name by the Cirk La Putyka theatre ensemble. The release date is the date of the renewed première of the show, which will be performed thirty-one times this year on the Jatka78 home stage in Prague's Holešovice during December 2024 and January 2025. "Rest in Euphoria" combines elements of contemporary cabaret with the context of the rave scene to celebrate freedom and sexuality in a place where we can not only tolerate but love our world in openness and freedom.

Every year during Holy Week, the Easter Festival of Sacred Music prepares the Tenebrae - chants of lamentations and responsories performed in the dark on the eve of the feast. After ensemble performances of Zelenka's and Gesualdo's chants, Ensemble Versus have decided to present a choral repertoire of Czech origin for this year's edition. Another change is that the Tenebrae have moved from the church setting to Brno's three underground water reservoirs at Žlutý Kopec, which each evening will host three concerts lasting about forty minutes. Viewers can choose the hour that suits them best. This review looks at the first of the Tenebrae held on Holy Wednesday, 16 April, in reservoir no. 2.  more

Yesterday's opening concert of the 32nd Easter Festival of Sacred Music, held in the newly renovated Church of St. James, offered more than an hour of contemplation with the St. John Passion by the contemporary Estonian composer and this year's jubilarian, Arvo Pärt (*1935). The work was performed by the vocal ensemble Martinů Voices with artistic director Lukáš Vasilek, soloists Jiří BrücklerOndřej HolubAlena HellerováJana KuželováOndřej Benek and Martin Kalivoda, accompanied by a chamber ensemble: Daniela Valtová Kosinová (organ), Pavla Tesařová (violin), Lukáš Pospíšil (cello), Vladislav Borovka (oboe), Martin Petrák (bassoon).  more

The Ondráš Military Artistic Ensemble took a dance across the peaks and valleys of the Carpathian Arch in the première of their new show Through the Carpathians. The new show by the professional part of the ensemble took place on the stage of the Radost Theatre in Brno. And it was truly a joy to watch this new venture. It sees the ensemble leave the spectacular choreography behind for a while and return to its original folk roots without giving up on any of its own expressive style.  more

The spring concert by the Diversa Quartet offered works by purely Czech composers for the first time in a long time. The event, held on the evening of Monday, 7 April at the Villa Löw-Beer, was subtitled Tempus est iocundum after a love song from the Carmina Burana manuscript. It was the song's exuberance that inspired the dramaturgy of the concert, which was accompanied by an ensemble made up of Barbara Tolarová (1st violin), Jan Bělohlávek (2nd violin), David Křivský (viola) and Iva Wiesnerová (cello).  more

Another of the jazz evenings regularly organised by the Brno Philharmonic was dedicated to the duo Will Vinson (alto saxophone) and Aaron Parks (piano). These musicians have been working together in various formations for twenty years. So they decided that it was time to try the most intimate and, according to many, the most difficult - playing as a mere duo. These mid-generation jazz musicians performed a selection of classical jazz material as well as several of their own compositions on Monday 10 March at the Besední dům.  more
